RIP Edwin Ajacalon

RIP Edwin Ajacalon

Edwin Ajacalon, a 14 year old, was riding his bike delivering food and was hit by a BMW around 23rd Street and 5th Avenue in Sunset Park at 5:45 pm last night. The car wasn’t going to stop. (Source and here too)  This article states that the car stopped a block away and one passenger (out of four) left the car (source)

Aljacalon was taken to Methodist Hospital, but died from the injuries to his head and body. Story and Pictures,    story and video here and  here

The driver (seen here) was taken to the hospital for evaluation.(source)

Edwin Ajacalon (referred to as Edwin Vincente on some sites)  was working to help support his family in Guatemala.  Ajacalon lived with his Uncle here in Brooklyn, while his family lives in Central America. Prayers for his friends  here and back home.

RIP Edwin. This was a really good teen. Edwin wanted to build a house for his family and return home to see them. (Source) Many prayers for his family in Guatemala who are going to be devastated by this. There is community vigil tomorrow at 6:30 PM, at 23rd Street & 5th Avenue. See pictures of vigil here

Blue Bloods is Filming in Bay Ridge on 11/28

Updated 11/28/17 – See the crash here

Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg will be filming Blue Bloods in Bay Ridge on Tuesday, November 28th., Residents with cars in the area aren’t going to be happy that  they can’t park on a lot streets. From Monday, November 27th at 10 pm until Tuesday, November 28th (they are filming  5:00 AM – 5:00 pm on Tuesday).  The streets are being cleared for their production trucks. Do they really need that many spots for production trucks? Probably not. Blue Bloods has filmed here before and they never required so many blocks emptied.  Of course alternate side is in effect. Why didn’t anyone cancel alternate side when they issued the above permit…..cause no one has an ounce of common sense.

A fake building has been added in front of the Harbor View Car Service parking lot 9419 Fifth Avenue (Above is how it normally looks. Below fake building to the left of Harbor View).  See pictures and video here

Apparently, one of the actors is going to crash a car into this Exceptional Deli building. Bay Ridge residents in the area thought it was a real new business. See video

The store sign reads – Exceptional  Deli: Cold Drinks, Fresh Fruit, Hot and Cold Sandwiches, Fresh Flowers. See video

No parking:

  • The east side of 4th Avenue between 94th & 95th Street

  • Both sides of 5th Avenue between 94th & 95th Street

  • Both sides of 95th Street between 4th & 5th Avenue

  • Both sides of 94th between 5th Avenue & Gelston Avenue.

If you leave your car on the street it will be towed – so if you are seeing this after your car is missing, call 311 and they will tell you where they put your car.

The Wicked Monk Expands – Party Room

Remax Realty closed a few months ago. At first there were signs that said the place was being renovated, but the realty office Remax moved to 8201 3rd Avenue.

Now the permit in the window states that the former realty office is becoming part of the restaurant.

The party room will be great for customers who don’t enjoy the lively music or for larger parties of people who are celebrating. The inside will mimic the inside of the exiting building with stone walls and stained glass windows. Sixty-five to seventy people will be able to fit in the party room. It’s going to be a great space for medium size partie.

The Wicked Monk party room is expected to be open this holiday season.  Congratulations to the owners!

Oh No Another Unity Task Force, Bay Ridge!

Another Taskforce has been formed……SERIOUSLY COUNCILMAN GENTILE?!

Ughhhh! I saw this picture on Councilman Gentile’s twitter page and mention of “a unity task force.”  The new task force is a lunch eating crew. The last task force for a breakfast club. Notice Councilman-Elect Brannan is a vegetarian and doesn’t have the same food.

We all know that the Unity Task Force was just a token name and a breakfast club that met once a year to take a picture for the paper.

BUT IT  WAS COMPLETELY INEFFECTIVE AFTER THE INITIAL FEW YEARS.

WHY?

BECAUSE A TASKFORCE IS SUPPOSE TO TAKE ACTION – IT DOESN’T MEET TO JUST EAT. AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT DOESN’T MEET ONCE A YEAR.

Who is on the taskforce? At the table are NYPD from the 68th, 66th and 72nd Precincts, Rabbi Joe Potasnik, Gentile, Brannan and Pastor El-Yateem (not pictured). Murad Awawdeh  is sitting on the front left of the picture, but he wasn’t named in the members of the task force. (From CB10 November 2017 Minutes)

I have always loved Councilman Gentile and I usually love what he does. But maybe he is out of ideas and just wants to finish off this term.

Thankful

I’m thankful for all that is mentioned above, but mostly this year I am thankful for Lee having good health because of  Dr. Funaro, a Bay Ridge doctor. Dr. Funaro sent Lee for an endoscopy which resulted in stomach cancer being found early. Also very thankful for Sloan Kettering doctors and nurses who took great care of Lee.

Theresa Monforte-Caraballo — Grandma’s Love

Theresa Monforte-Caraballo is a Bay Ridge Grandmother who cares for children and their families. I don’t know her personally, but I have seen her spring into action to help people in need. She runs a not-for-profit called Grandma’s Love Inc. which provides food to children to take home to their families. Pix 11 did a good story on her – see the video and story here.

Rocks for Love in Bay Ridge

Some Bay Ridge residents paint and hide rocks all over the streets of Bay Ridge for strangers to find. Now that might sound a little strange, until you actually accidentally run into one of these little rocks. Just seeing them makes me smile because I know the sentiment comes from someone who wants to bring happiness to others.

You don’t have to be an artist to decorate the rocks, but many Ridgites are talented artists.

The rock above created by the talented Eva Nyiro? will be raffled at Norma’s Arts & Craft Store (7813 3rd Ave,) on December 13th. Tickets are $5 each or 4 for $15.  All proceeds that Rocks for Love makes will be evenly divided between Memorial Sloan Kettering Pediatric Cancer Go And St. Jude.  Tip: When you are at Norma’s Craft Store getting a raffle ticket, look around on the shelves because some people hide painted rocks in her store.
