Dan Donovan – It’s Still Racism

Dan Donovan thought he would be cute and try to say that the government is just “enforcing the law of the land.”

Donovan is part of the problem  because he is backing hiding racism with “enforcing the law of the land.”  He shouldn’t be  #Silent when he represents a diverse neighborhood in #BayRidge   Dan Donovan should be standing up to get the immigration system fixed. 

When Donovan and his family went to see Pope Francis,  Donovan didn’t tell the Pope he wanted to “enforce the rules of the land.  Pope Francis asked politicians to help immigrants. 

Here’s the thing: One day Dan Donovan’s daughter will research him. She’ll see the news about Eric Gardner, she’ll see charts that show her Dad accepted a lot of PAC Contributions:

And when Dan Donovan had a chance to speak up for the people he represents, he stayed silent and said, “This is the law of the land.”  His daughter will wonder why he didn’t change the law to make the world better for her generation.

Senator Golden – “Opiods Are Not a Ghetto Drug”

Paula Katinas launched Marty Golden into Newsweek with his comment about opiods not being ghetto drugs. 

Senator Golden is so disconnected from people that he doesn’t think there was anything wrong with what he said. Update: 1/26 Apology issued (see below)

In Case You Need To Know….

Today, Nicole Malliotakis’ staffer wrote that I am posting on this blog and twitter ALL  DAY  LONG. I checked my social media account because I thought someone hacked me.

I realized her staffer doesn’t understand tech, but I tried to explain how websites set a date and time for articles. My husband wants to know why Malliotakis’ staffer  reloads this website so much?  If Nicole Malliotakis was an effective leader, she would monitoring her staff’s activities. In eight months, Malliotakis only had one message for Community Board 10. 

I write about politicians and corruption in Brooklyn.   I always link to an article so people know where that information can be found.  

When I moved here, I didn’t pay attention to politicians. And the politicians knew we weren’t looking so they helped people outside of our community. Marty Golden wrote a bill for developers in Manhattan and  Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis voted in favor of that bill.  Malliotakis is on social media and she went silent after her vote.  No one in Bay Ridge  benefited from Senator Golden’s bill.   

Then property taxes in Bay Ridge rocketed! Don’t get me started on property taxes!

The truth is:  we will be here long after the politicians terms are over.  This area deserves better representation and I will be here writing here at night – (it’s 12:32 am right now) until Bay Ridge gets that!  Finally, if you don’t like what I write about, don’t type the address anymore – its that simple.

Community Board 10 – Nicole Malliotakis – No News

Yesterday, Nicole Malliotakis sent a representative to the Bay Ridge Community Board 10 meeting, but she didn’t have any message for the community.  (Video here)

I posted that on social media because it was strange. Malliotakis’ staffer told me to check the minutes from other Community Board 10 meetings. I brought up the topic, so I figured I should follow through.  Malliotakis’ staffer must have thought I wasn’t going to check. I had no idea that I was going to find so little communication between Assemblywoman Malliotakis and CB 10 for the past eight months.

At BOTH the November and December Community Board Meetings, the only message that Assemblywoman Malliotakis sent to the community was that she was collecting toys for a toy drive. It’s nice that she holds a toy drive, but there were a lot of organizations in Bay Ridge doing this. People didn’t elect the Malliotakis to run a Christmas toy drive; they elected her to represent them and to create laws.

At the October meeting, there was no news from Assemblywoman Malliotakis.

At the September meeting, there was no news from Assemblywoman Malliotakis.  The Community Board does not meet in July or August.

At the June 2017 meeting, there is no news from Nicole Malliotakis. 

For eight months, Bay Ridge has heard very little communication from Assemblywoman Malliotakis. From the Community Board 10 meeting, it’s obvious a lot of things have fallen on Josephine Beckmann and that isn’t right.   

Councilman Gentile had messages for the community every month. Other politicians who aren’t directly connected to this community, also had representatives with messages. (Although there wasn’t a lot of information from Marty Golden or Pam Harris’ reps).  Bay Ridge has come to know Malliotakis’ silence.

This is the reason I watch what is going on and write here. Politicians, like Malliotakis are counting on us being too busy to check on them.

Hope Count in Brooklyn Last Night

Hope Count 2018  was a failure – just like Hope Count 2017. In 2015 and 2016, NYC found out an estimate of the homeless on the street AND NYC failed to help that amount of people. Now we have at least double that number – no one needs to count….we all know it. Instead of acting to help people, moments like Hope Count are held so people can feel like they are doing something.  

Last night between 10 pm and 2 am, while many of us were counting sheep, HOPELESS Count 2018 happened. While the NY city may not know the exact number that are homeless, they have a round-about number. Can you imagine being homeless and someone is coming by at night to count you as if you are the unwanted inventory of NYC. Why not buy these people some hot pizza or soup and give them a fresh blanket – make the evening worthwhile in actually helping some of these men and women?

Will tonight’s number change anything? NOPE not a thing. It didn’t change a thing last year either and everyone is hoping we are too busy to notice. NYC doesn’t have a path to end homelessness. What has been setup is a system to help a very small portion of people get off the street. Those who are mentally ill have the least chance of getting a place. Why? Many homeless say they want to stay on the street and the city leaves them there because that’s part of their procedure in “listening to them.” People often refuse help when they are afraid – even people who aren’t mentally ill do this.

Why is this an issue for Bay Ridge? Bay Ridge has seen a lot more homeless on our main streets and also in setting up shelters in our parks (even very small park-like sitting areas). I know many people want these people moved because they are unsightly, but they have no where to go. They come here because they want to be able to put their head down and sleep without getting robbed. 

But don’t worry, the City or Breaking Ground wasted no expense on designing a logo (another logo here and one below too) for the Hope Count cause every homeless count event in the United States needs a logo right? How else can the not-for-profit, Breaking Ground show that they are doing something?

Then they have a  commemorative sweatshirt for the counters to wear with another logo on it. Because it’s not a homeless count unless someone wears a two-sided printed sweatshirt to show you counted the homeless people in NYC. And it’s like a party favor to take home and show others, you did good by counting people living on the street. Free promotional items might make those who counted feel better about homeless, but it isn’t going to help those who are homeless, but it isn’t going to help those who are homeless. We have money to burn NYC, but we don’t have people who know how to get homeless off the street.

In a few days there will be a video because not-for-profits have to show that they did something. But no one is breaking ground here on the issue of homelessness, people are just going through the motions to make it look like “something is happening.” 

When you want something to happen, let me know. I will lend you my husband and he will build places for people to live – whether it’s in a big factory or on the streets. There are other men like my husband (and women too) who are ready to build – but NYC isn’t ready to think differently and do something about the problem.  He can build some homes like this or this or get a warehouse and he will build rooms to divide up the place. This place would be perfect, but Brand Lander and Mayor deBlasio don’t want the homeless shelter in their backyard (even though it’s mostly a commercial area).

You can see the #HopeCount pictures….yeah why are people taking pictures of the homeless. Stop that! When someone is down, you don’t take a photo of them because you have nothing better to do! 

Councilman Brannan was involved as a leader in tonight’s Hope Count. When the numbers return,  will Brannan hold Bill deBlasio accountable to help the homeless on the streets in Bay Ridge?  We’ll see, but I don’t think so.  No one holds deBlasio accountable – everyone just keeps counting……like sheep.

Community Board 10 Meeting

Applause for Community Board 10 for sharing their meeting online.

The Pearl Room was a big issue at the meeting:

I was surprised Anthony Rinaldi, the owner of The Pearl Room hasn’t handled this situation better. THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST NINE MONTHS. Rinaldi appeared at the CB10 meeting and claimed he didn’t know about the problem until recently. Rinaldi didn’t seem to understand that his solution of moving the speakers didn’t help…..do something else NOW so the residents can sleep. Bebo, the place that was there before The Pearl Room didn’t have these noise complaints. 

I applaud the CB10 members who pushed this issue and were so aggressive for their neighbors in Bay Ridge. Cheers to the CB10 member who boldly put the motion on the floor to revoke Rinaldi’s liquor licence. It was good for Rinaldi to see the community has a say here.  Rinaldi tried to claim it was just five residents. HE REALLY DIDN’T GET IT. Bravo to the CB10 female member who pointed out that Rinaldi is disrespectful because this has been going on for nine months.  All I could say is that we have the right people on CB10.

It appears The Pearl Room has booked parties outside of operating hours. If the restaurant keeps to the hours, the residents across the street probably won’t have any problems. Joanne Seminara made a motion to make Rinaldi responsible to his neighbors and this community – Seminara is a champion for this community.

Detective Kirschner from the 68th Precinct piped in that he is going to help…..Really Det. Kirschner? Why didn’t Detective Kirschner do that before?  BTW, Detective Kirschner called me at my house because he didn’t like what I wrote on Twitter the night before. Stop monitoring what I write Detective and get out into the community and deal with issues before the meeting!

BTW, Doris Cruz, the moderator of CB10’s meeting is fantastic. She’s a go-getter.

I won’t be visiting The Pearl Room any time soon!   We live close to Third Avenue and the places near us are really respectful. Years ago, we called one on a particularly late Sunday night and they immediately lowered the sound.
