When Will the 68th Precinct Respond Better to 311 Calls?
DOn February 26th, Doris from Community Board 10 cited the lack of police in the 68th Precinct to the rise of Quality of Life issues in the area.
Hear June speak about a problem (at 2:16:40) that many of us have experienced. You call 311 for a problem, no one responds and then the 68th precinct closes the call even though no one came out to do anything about the situation.
No one wants to speak out against this because no one wants to offend the police.
But it’s happening A LOT and it’s not right.

February 27, 2018Nicole Malliotakis Update at CB 10
Nicole Malliotakis’s representative had very little to share this month at Community Board 10’s Meeting on February 26, 2018 , but at least it was better than last month.
These meetings show Nicole Malliotakis hasn’t done much in Bay Ridge.
Here is what her representative presented:
1) Malliotakis asked the Mayor establish a property tax commission. Property tax increased in 38% in the last 4 years. Yet Nicole Malliotakis is only the co-sponsor of one cheap property tax bill. Nicole Malliotakis’ staffer said that Malliotakis has a petition on her website. She’s gone the petition route before and it is very ineffective.
2) Malliotakis wants people to convince Carl Heastie to bring a bill to a vote. Nicole Malliotakis has barely mentioned this on her own social media account – how would anyone else know about it? Why hasn’t Malliotakis promoted this every day?
3) Malliotakis met with Riders Alliance and said we need more money from the city and state. I haven’t seen any bills from Nicole Malliotakis about the subways.

February 27, 2018Councilman Brannan’s Bills for Opiod Awareness
I saw Councilman Brannan’s new bills for educating students about opiod education. Brannan’s only been a Councilman for a very short time and he has been working on a lot of problems which are present in our community, as well as throughout NYC. Before he was a Councilman, he was very responsive to our neighborhood, so it doesn’t surprise me that he is so productive.
Read more about his bills here and here Also Brannan’s bills and committees here

February 27, 2018Guardians of the Guardians Call for Landmarking
Often people just think of the front of the large building they see, but Angel Guardian is a huge and magnificent property in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. The property is surrounding by walls, but people don’t realize the beautiful structures or park-like backyard. This Sister of Mercy have sold this property.
The Guardians of the Guardian is a group seeking to preserve the building and land because of it’s uniqueness – – not only to the area, but to Brooklyn (go here and zoom in to look at it). Frank Rossi, a member the Guardians for the Guardian spoke at the CB 10 Meeting on February 26th. Rossi stressed the importance of land-marking The Angel Guardian Home and Grounds because it is unique. One thing that was apparent is that Frank Rossi loves Brooklyn and knows the importance of preserving Brooklyn’s history.
Frank Rossi at CB 10’s Meeting
Rossi noted that many old structures are being discarded, but the Angel Guardian Home was built over 100 years ago and it is unique. Dyker Heights doesn’t have any buildings that are landmarked. This neighborhood treasure needs to be saved and preserved.
Carl Esposito, Guardians of the Guardian
Carl Esposito, also a member of the Guardians of the Guardian spoke at the CB 10 meeting . Esposito says the Angel Guardian site should be land-marked because it is intact for 115 years, it’s unique and the gardens are beautiful. Esposito lives in the area and noted how much residents enjoyed how much the beautiful land brings to the area and environment. I loved hearing him speak so passionately about this property – he’s a true Brooklynite.
The executive director of the Historic Districts Council, Simeon Bankoff, also agrees that the structure and property are property’s architectural is unique and the building has historical significance. See here
The Guardians of the Guardian are calling on the Mayor and the Land Preservation Committee of NYC to see the uniqueness of this structure and landmark it.

February 26, 2018Shots Fired on 80th and 5th in Bay Ridge
Josephine from Community Board 10 told the community tonight that residents called her office this morning to tell her that they heard shots fired across the street from the Community Board 10 Office on 5th Avenue between 80th and 81st Street.
People had stories about men being shot, but our Councilman had the real story of what happened:
And Brannan would have the story because his office is right there!
No Quarters Bar is at 8015 – 5th Avenue
CB 10’s Office – 8119 5th Ave
Councilman Brannan’s Office – 8018 5th Avenue
The Brooklyn Reporter states that the police spoke with employees at No Quarter Tavern at 8015 Fifth Avenue and they found shells casings.
