Dan Donovan Playing with the Post Office

Now that it’s out in the open that Congressman Dan Donovan’s family has been dealing with a drug issue, we should see Dan Donovan fighting the heroin problem in Staten Island.

Nope.

Our congressman is taking on the US Post Office and wants to force them to display a picture of the president.  Donovan found out that a post office in Staten Island was displaying the old president, so instead of calling the postmaster, Donovan decided to spend his time writing a bill for it. 

Who does Dan Donovan represent? Donny Trump or you the Brooklyn/Staten Island resident who is (or knows of)  a family affected by opiods?

This November Donovan is up for re-election. Please vote him out because we all deserve better.

Backstory: Dan Donovan had a hissy attack at Michael Grimm this week because someone reported Donovan for allegedly interfering in the arrest of his girlfriend’s son. Donovan denies this claim. 

Will a silly story about Dan’s fight to get the president’s picture in the post office cover that?

Free Tree Giveaways in Brooklyn

At the event, they will allow each person to take two trees or bushes with them.  We took two small trees and planted them in our backyard. We’ve had them for 7 years and prune them to keep them small. We also got a fast growing magnolia bush (which could become a tree).

Pipe Down Mark Treyger….Let the Neighborhood Decide!

Pam Harris’ seat isn’t even cool and people are talking about whose going to jump in it.

Kadia Goba’s article in Bklyner  talked about Mark Treyger picking someone. No. No. Noooo.

Treyger already chose and he chose poorly.   

Councilman Treyger needs to know that on the few times we have needed an Assembly representative, we had no representative because of Mark Treyger’s choice. Sometimes this was because Harris didn’t want to and lately because Harris was indicted.    

Councilman Mark Treyger pushed Pam Harris to run for Assembly.  Besides giving Harris money for her not-for-profit and not following up, Treyger continued to fund Harris’ group even after there were major red flags.

In the Summer of 2016,  newspapers revealed the truth about Pam Harris. Mark Treyger and Delia Shack, the Democratic District Leaders  still endorsed Harris. Kevin Peter Carroll, another District Leader also endorsed Harris. All three district leaders should step down as an endorsement for Harris should not have been made after all that was known. Some of the articles about Harris were interviews with her where  Harris revealed the truth to the journalists herself.  Did these politicians not read the newspapers or did they just not care?

Mark Treyger’s political club, The Shorefront Democratic Club endorsed Harris. And even political clubs such as the Brooklyn Democrats for Change and the Muslim Democratic Club also endorsed Harris. I tried speaking to the leaders of these two clubs and neither would budge on the endorsement. Don’t make careless endorsements in neighborhoods where people have to be stuck with your “friends” or your “political buddy”  when the news revealed information that should have stopped you in your tracks!

When Harris was arrested for fraud, Treyger didn’t have the chutzpah to tell Harris to step down. 

Treyger had his staff give this statement: 

In 2018, the local media asked Treyger to clarify the 2017 City Council money that Treyger gave to Pam Harris’ former not-for-profit (see here), The Coney Island Generational Gap. Councilman Mark Treyger has said nothing – even though THIS is a breach of the public’s trust.   Treyger doesn’t feel he needs to respond to residents in Coney Island, yet Treyger has boldly asked others to account for missing money. The “Do as I Say and not as I Do” mentality exists here.

In the 2016 election, Justin Brannan did not endorse Harris. The other candidate, a very nice person had an organization behind her that supported charters schools, so no endorsement could be given.  While Brannan was running for Councilman, he admitted he reads every morning – newspapers, online papers and even blogs. He is well-informed and connected to this community. 

Let’s hear from Mathylde Frontus.  She’s well-educated and has been involved in her community for years.  This was written about Frontus in 2011. I have only read good things about this woman and she seems like a hard worker. We are interested in hearing from Frontus and how she will represent Bay Ridge, as well as Coney Island. This community doesn’t need a Treyger lackey; we need someone whose independent from him.

Frank Seddio should note that our other representative is Marty Golden, so we don’t need any more nonsense here. We hope Seddio will step back and hold off on endorsing someone until all interested parties have had time to present themselves to our community. (Yes I am sending this to him).

Bay Ridge residents want to hear from anyone who lives within the district from Bay Ridge to Coney Island and has a proven work ethic.  Our community sees Justin Brannan getting things done and although we know there is only one Justin, the person who gets this job needs to love people and helping people as much as Justin does. Carpetbaggers need not apply – if you can’t run in your area, don’t try running in ours. Mark Treyger tried this with a revenge candidate  in Bay Ridge last year.

The ideal person would be someone who is familiar with the diversity of the cultures in each community. We all speak Brooklyn, but sometimes that is forgotten. Harris mildly spoke up for an express train in Coney Island (see here) and did nothing for Bay Ridge which has only ONE broken train. People have to get to work, so some action is needed here.

This candidate should be money-conscious and want one office somewhere in the middle of the two neighborhoods.  It’s a waste of money to have two offices and when someone goes to the office, they want to speak to the elected representative – not that person’s staff. 

Like Brannan, you should be social media savvy. Communication is fast and easy online.

If you went on social media and you were a jerk, don’t bother running because everyone took screenshots of that nonsense.  We have no time to waste on immaturity or stupidity.

Finally, this position would require someone who has a backbone and can stand up to developers and drug dealers. Coney Island needs help. a lot of help in this area.  We know REBNY is looking to get in Bay Ridge (they put $60K with the losing candidate during the 2017 election- many people don’t know this) and also $398,190 to support Mark Treyger’s campaign.  Both candidates claimed they didn’t know, but we see the stronghold that developers have on Coney Island.

Paint Rocks with BayRidgeRocks 4/7/18

A group of amazing parents started a group inwhich they paint and hide rocks. Each month they hold rock painting events to let the children paint the rocks. They put a message on the back of the rocks asking people who find the rocks to take a picture and share it to the group on Facebook.

When I am walking around on the Avenue, I will sometimes hear a child (or adult) yell out something like “Look” or “I found it” because they found a rock someone hid….it’s the sound of pure joy. 

In January 2017 was when I first started seeing these rocks, so this group is doing well!

Politicians Stand Up Against Punish a Muslim Day

Glad to see so many leaders were at the Islamic Society of Bay Ridge on April 3, 2018.  In 2018, no one in the United States should be threatened with harm because of who (or what) they worship. 

Councilman Brannan’s words on social media matter as everyone, including the young people of this community are watching.  

We see which politicians are not there as well.

And that’s important to this community (see here).

Thank You Cocoa Grinder & BR Neighbors

There was a flyer about harming Muslims on April 3rd. The flyer’s origins were supposedly from Europe.  There were reports of copies of it being shared here in Brooklyn. I worried that someone was going to get hurt by someone who felt the flyer was a call for action. I worried that kids wouldn’t feel safe and that’s an issue.

When I talked to some teens in the area, they were tough Brooklyn kids. They were ready to “Go Brooklyn” on anyone who started with someone in our community.  So I tweeted the NYC Police Commissioner, James O’Neill this because I didn’t know what else to do:

I saw some Bay Ridge residents extended kind gestures to Muslim residents. Kindness can kill hate. I’m so glad we have good neighbors who would do that. Whether you gave out flowers or donuts, stood by in the neighborhood, visited the mosque or just were kind to neighbors – Thank you!  

Cocoa Grinder had this sign. (See it on the building here) Shahada is equal to a Christian’s Apostle’s Creed.   For Muslims, Shahada = ‘There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.’  The coffee was free for everyone so don’t get bitter on Cocoa Grinder because he was spreading kindness on people who were being given a hard time. Yes, everyone – not just Muslims: 

To the owner of Cocoa Grinder, I’ve seen your kindness many times – not just today. Bay Ridge is lucky to have you!  Thank you for being inspiring! 

Finally, thank you to these Brooklyn Politicians for speaking out boldly against hate.

While each of you who took the time to be kind, you thought you just touched a few people. Yet, there are young people in our community who are quietly watching and learning – learning how to treat other people and learning what good people do for others.  Thank you!

Police Chase Stolen Car Through Bay Ridge

Just after 10:30 am, this morning, a sedan drove up on the sidewalk on Third Avenue and 87th Street (near Bohemian Rose Hair Salon) to get through traffic as it was being chased by an unmarked police car. Helicopters were all over!

The police started the chase in Staten Island because the perps were driving a stolen car.

The police chase headed down Third Avenue towards Sunset Park and apparently continued on to Downtown Brooklyn (around 11:00 am which is right if there was traffic).

Hopefully, they will get them soon and no one will be hurt.
