Saint Anthony Day – June 13th – South Brooklyn

I’ve loved Saint Anthony for years. Saint Anthony has been able to help me locate lost things for years (don’t knock it until you try it). I’ve given Saint Anthony statues to friends and they have found things that were missing for years. The prayer goes: “Dear St. Anthony, please come around.  Something’s been lost and can’t be found. Then you name your item.”

Saint Athanasius  2154 61st Street will be celebrating Saint Anthony’s Feast Day on Wednesday by distributing St. Anthony bread at the three masses (if you don’t know what that is click here)

Regina Pacis 1230 65th Street will also be holding a special mass for St. Anthony at 8:30 am.

CB10 Works on Safer Streets for Cyclists

This was a total disaster!

Cycling has become more and more popular and Community Board 10 realizes that they need to come up with some solutions so that cyclists, including children and teens have safe streets to ride on.

Bay Ridge drivers need to be a bit more considerate of cyclists, but some enclosed street areas will help as well.

If you are interested in this discussion, attend the transportation committee’s meeting on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the CB 10 office, located at 8119 5th Avenue.

See story here.

Malliotakis is Voting Against Marty Golden’s Bill

Nicole Malliotakis

Nicole Malliotakis is voting against a bill that Senator Golden introduced to correct the spelling of the Verrazzano Bridge. It’s great that Golden wants to spell the man’s name correctly (with two z’s), but the cost of changing all of those signs is going to be high.

The MTA says it will cost $350,000 to change the signs.(Source)  Senator Golden’s bill doesn’t delay the signs from being changed; the bill actually states that the signs need to be changed within 180 days after the bill has been passed. Malliotakis claims that the MTA is already in $38B debt and doesn’t need more.

Golden’s office said the MTA may be changing the signs soon because there may be a change in the cost of the toll. But it looks like someone didn’t think this through (or write the bill well – the bill should not be asking for the signs to be replaced in 180 days, but rather when signs need to be changed due to a change in the toll).

Malliotakis knows this bill will probably zip through the Assembly. See story

Puerto Rican Day Parade & 4.645 Candle Vigil on June 10th

Sunday, June 10th is the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Sunset Park.

No automatic alt text available.

In the evening there will be a candlelight vigil:

A lot of people are asking me if they are expected over 4000 people at the vigil. No, 4,645 is the estimated number of people that died in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria (this number was revealed on the news recently so you may not have seen it).
