An Open Letter to Eric Adams
Edit: Eric Adams answered on 7/22
Dear Eric Adams,
Hate happens every day. Recently, it was filmed on a bus from Bay Ridge to Staten Island. Your solution was to take some people on a “solidarity bus ride.” I’m sure you thought your one day of action cured the community. We’ve seen these “one day events” for years. These events make ‘pretty press releases’ and allow pols, like you, to get a new photo for your social media page. Mr. Adams, your ride was as effective as our long-standing ‘Bay Ridge Community Task Force’ (aka The Breakfast Club).
Corruption ripples through our community from the top down. We had the very corrupt Pam Harris as our assemblywoman. You endorsed Pam Harris, even after journalists revealed the truth to this community in 2016. Obviously, that didn’t work out for us, as we haven’t had a NYS Assembly representative for some time.
And now you are endorsing someone again? You endorsed Ethan Lustif-Elgraby, who doesn’t have connections to this community. The Democratic District Leader, Mark Treyer, thinks it is okay to run his friends, even when his community asked him to do better. Do you realize that same district leader “played politics” and didn’t support our current councilman, Justin Brannan?
Please provide me with the endorsement letter you gave your candidate. As far as I can see, he can’t shine the shoes of the outstanding woman, who you didn’t interview. I would like to know why you endorsed him. Ethan Lustig was silent as money was thrown at Pam Harris by your friend, Mark Treyger. My neighbors ate your candidate for dinner when he blamed everyone else for not following up on the money.
Last November, the Republican/Conservative Party played with our election (and they lost). Now we have what appears to be Democrats trying to use our community in deals for future election endorsements. Dr. Frontus wants to reform the government and make things more transparent – that’s what we need. Please take your personal politics out of our election. We don’t care that you want to be the next mayor – we have a neighborhood that needs representation.
The last Borough President was a lot more responsive to Brooklyn. He called me on a Sunday after I contacted his office on a Saturday evening. We deserve a Borough President who supports our community.
Update: I tweeted Eric Adams on July 18th. On 18th, my husband sent him a polite e-mail because he thought Eric Adams may not want to respond to a tweet without a first and last name. On 7/19, I sent another tweet to Eric Adams just in case the office didn’t give him the first one. On 7/20 – I posted this because enough is enough. Adams’ staff tweeted 8 times and no one responded. I sent Eric Adams a tweet with the link to this page. It’s 7/22 and he responded in the comments (not to the e-mail from 7/18). The Borough President has a large staff – if they didn’t know the answer or he busy, they should have responded and said, “EA will answer you on Monday.” It’s that simple.
Eric Adams reason for supporting Ethan Lustig is ridiculous.

July 19, 2018Eric Adams is Forcing Treyger’s Candidate on Us When He Hasn’t Spoken to Dr. Mathylde Frontus
Dr. Mathylde Frontus is running for the NY Assembly seat for our district. Mathylde has an impressive background – both her education and her experience make her a good fit for this job. Dr. Frontus is an adjunct professor at the Columbia University and the NYU, where she teaches Advocacy and Social Justice. She has been recognized for her leadership in Brooklyn for years.
When I saw an endorsement from Eric Adams, I asked Dr. Frontus if Eric Adams spoke with her. Adams didn’t know we were going to check on him. Eric Adams is busy trying to line up people to support him for Mayor and didn’t take the time to even speak to Frontus. ** Yikes Brooklyn **
![]()
One of the things that makes Mathylde Frontus so appealing to me is that she isn’t connected to any politicians currently in office. She can boast that she is unbought and unbossed. Frontus has been a community activist since she was a teen and has lived in the area for 30 years.
When Pam Harris was indicted, we were all waiting for her to step down. Mark Treyger complained because Mathylde Frontus started the process to seek the Assembly position. If a man had done that, Treyger wouldn’t have said anything. Mark Treyger didn’t care that Bay Ridge and Coney Island didn’t have an Assembly representative. Treyger had an outburst and blamed Bay Ridge instead of apologizing for supporting Harris.
I was glad to see Mathylde Frontus reached out to Bay Ridge residents. She knows what we have been through with Harris, she understands the diverse area and she has been very open about talking to everyone. I hope more local Democrats will embrace her, as I believe she is an honest player. If she isn’t, then let Steve Saperstein show us that. That’s the reason we have elections – to get the best candidate.
The “know-it-all” Democrats chose Pam Harris and not one asked her to step down. In addition to Treyger, Pam Harris was backed by Eric Adams, Diane, Hakeem Jefferies, Diane Savino, Delia Schack, William Colton, Charlie Ragusa, Margarita Kagan and Ari Kagan. The public knew most of the truth since August 2, 2016 because Harris admitted to reporters what she did. All the same ones pushing Ethan Lustig-Elgrably.
Last November, Mark Treyger pushed Nancy Tong when everyone in Bay Ridge knew we had Justin Brannan. Tong didn’t live in our district and she couldn’t answer questions about issues in a diverse community. Treyger couldn’t separate his personal issues with Brannan, from what was best for our community. If Frank Seddio was a good boss, he would have told Treyger to vacate district leader position. It doesn’t cost a dime to be honest here.
Mathylde Frontus knows our community is looking for strong leadership and she is running because she has years of experience being a leader. Like Nicole Malliotakis, Frontus is the daughter of immigrants. Unlike Malliotakis, Mathylde Frontus does not support Trump and she isn’t afraid to speak up for immigrants. Many years ago, Frontus founded Urban Neighborhood Services to help people in Coney Island.
Why Mark Treyger can’t be trusted…….A few years ago, the NYC EDC, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and the elected politician of Coney Island, Mark Treyger allowed a senior citizen named Carol Murray to be threatened by eminent domain. I wrote to Treyger and asked him to stand with the property owner at the meeting – he didn’t. The meeting was recorded. Carol Murray stood alone at that meeting. Many of those people who represented the government at that meeting now work in the private sector or moved out of the state.
![]()
As a side note, ten years ago, NYC declared eminent domain on my family’s business property in Downtown Brooklyn and my family fought for years. It was a nightmare to be told that the government could take your property. My family found out about the plan for eminent domain through a note that was posted on the front door – no mailing. When they showed up at a hotel for the meeting, they found the developers toasting the politicians. We have a big family, so we didn’t stand alone like Carol Murray did. AND we had Leticia James! Leticia James stood with my family and that made all the difference. We also got lucky and got an unbiased judge cancelled the eminent domain proceedings when he saw it was a property grab with basis.
After that meeting, Mark Treyger blocked me on social media because he didn’t want others to hear me speak about it. Treyger could have muted me on Twitter, but he blocked me from reading his announcements. Mark Treyger was aware that my family’s business is in his district. Mark is just like Trump – he can’t take the truth.
Mark Treyger and many of NYC Council members are term-limited out on the next election. That’s a good thing for Brooklyn because it allows fresh blood and fresh ideas, as well as new people who aren’t afraid to fight against the corruption that exists in the area. Even though Mark Treyger is in his second term, he still blames corruption on “deals” that were made years ago. That’s a sign that Treyger isn’t a good leader because he doesn’t know how to put an end to corruption.
Mark Treyger is pushing his former employee, Ethan Lustig-Elgrably. Lustig showed up at a Bay Ridge meeting and my neighbors questioned him (see video). Ethan Lustig-Elgrably wasn’t able to speak well because all he knows is Treyger politics and how easily Harris got away with money because no one was watching.
Treyger lives in the gated community of Seagate – its needs are very different than most of Brooklyn. The taxes are considerably lower for the waterfront property because the residents pay for their own police, as well as sewer, beach, lifeguards, street lights, and street cleaning. Before moving to Bay Ridge, friends encouraged me to look at Seagate.
When something happens in the area, Mark Treyger isn’t one of the first to speak up. Residents have to complain first before Mark Treyger speaks up. His advocacy has come days AFTER residents have stood up. I know because I have watched leaders from Bay Ridge (parents) speak up for Coney Island.
As a resident of Bay Ridge, we have the right to a fair election where party and district leaders aren’t taking away our choices and leaving us with one weak candidate. Last election, the Republicans played “placeholder candidate” in our community. The man who acted as the placeholder received less than 10% of the vote in his election, so obviously he and the party leaders behind him don’t know what’s going on.
Residents from both areas are speaking up (Here’s Coney Island). We are sick and tired of corruption. Bay Ridge Community Activist, Mike DeCillis has also spoken out because he believes Ms. Frontus is right for the position:
