Councilman Brannan Supports 3rd Avenue Businesses

Councilman Justin Brannan awarded the Third Avenue Merchants $36,000 for their BID.  I’m glad to see Brannan reach out to the merchants as 3rd Avenue is a big part of community life in Bay Ridge.

I would like to see the state representatives offer tax incentives to property owners on the Avenue. Marty Golden and Nicole Malliotakis failed to do that this year. Golden and Malliotakis fought for ebay and internet merchants sales tax while Businesses in Bay Ridge are struggling and closing. Obviously someone’s friends must be an online merchant who asked for a favor, else why would they bother?

Bay Ridge Liquor Store Pumpkin Flavored Spirits

This is for my friends who love pumpkin everything.  I don’t care for anything with pumpkin flavoring.

Longs Liquor Store in Bay Ridge has this Organic spiced pumpkin vodka – I’ve never heard of it. Read more here.

It’s about $30 for 750ml online.

Nicole Malliotakis Failed Property Owners

Oops it’s Election Season and Nicole Malliotakis failed to write a property tax bill. I wrote about this in September.

Last November when she ran for Mayor she talked about a property tax bill. But then she didn’t do anything.

Any Republican home owner in Bay Ridge can tell you that Nicole Malliotakis isn’t effective – she didn’t even introduce a bill and is now pandering.

Strangly,  Paula Katinas, a local writer,  published an article which made it seem like this bill was in the Assembly.

If there was a bill, there would be a bill number. The paper isn’t able to answer, even though ne of the Brooklyn Reporter’s Editors said, “if you have a problem, write to me.”

This suicide at Owl’s Head was confirmed online by Councilman Brannan on 10/10/18.

The man’s name became known to me through my friends who loved Henry. A memorial karaoke was held in Henry’s honor.

Henry’s with God and no longer has any pain.

*Prayers for Henry’s family.*

Senator Golden and the Child Victim’s Act

Gothamist has the story here.

In March 2018, Julianne McShane reported about protesters being outside of Senator Golden’s Office because of Marty’s opposition to the Child Victim’s Act. This story was also covered here  and states: “The demonstrators voiced their anger at Golden for his refusal to support a proposed piece of legislation to extend the time victims have to report such crimes. They claim he is protecting abusers and failing victims.”

This is a bill to help those who were sexually abused.

Most Catholic Churches  in our area have taken a softer position and has vocalized their support for victims. The Catholic Church is settling court cases with victims. Yet, the news reports that the Catholic Church spent a lot of money on lobbyists to get politicians to oppose the Child Victim’s Act. Ironically, some Republicans Senators offered an “alternative bill”   but Marty Golden isn’t on that either.

At the debate last week at the Senior Center, Marty know about the Child Victim’s Act, but this week he claimed he didn’t.

Tonight at the Dyker Heights Civic Association  debate, an audience member asked if each candidate would support The Child Victim’s Act.

Yet Marty Golden said “What is the Child Victim’s Act? The bill has been in the news and people protested outside of Senator Golden’s office, but Marty doesn’t know what it is. Paula Katinas even explained the bill when she wrote about the rally outside of Golden’s office   #SomethingIsn’tRightHere

Andrew Gounardes said he supports it and he told Marty Golden to do his homework.

Was Marty just pretending that he didn’t know?

Today victim’s stood outside of Marty Golden’s office  protesting with Andrew Gounardes.

Who Won the Dyker Heights Civic Association Debate?

Andrew Gounardes debating Marty Golden at the Dyker Heights Civic Association  was recorded and shared here.

Andrew Gounardes discussed how Marty Golden is no longer fighting for Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights Residents.   See video

The crowds were cheering for Andrew Gounardes at the end of the Dyker Heights Civic Association Debate. See video

The camera scans the audience and sees two of Senator Golden’s staffers – Gerry Kassar, former Chairman of the Brooklyn Conservative Party shrugged.

You see, Senator Golden has always been well received at debates, so it must have been shocking for him to hear the crowds cheered for Andrew Gounardes.

It was also noted that Senator Golden left BEFORE Steve Saperstein debated. (See here)

Pearson Hardware in Bay Ridge is Closing

Pearson Hardware is at 7305 – 5th Avenue. We are so sorry to hear that this great local hardware store is closing it’s doors for good. We heard the rent went insanely high.

One Winter, no one was selling ice melt and Pearson’s had it! There was a salt shortage that year. We called Lenny and asked him to hold a bag for us. When we finally got to the store, he really did hold the bag for us as other customers were waiting around just in case we didn’t come to get it.

This was the location, but not the same hardware store in the movie Saturday Night Fever.

This hardware store was called 6 Brothers Hardware back in the day. Those owners went to a smaller store years ago.

Good luck to the owners – thanks for being a great business in our community.

Someone Get Fran Vella-Marrone Some Nails

Someone get Vella-Marrone some nails so she can put down a roof with all that useless hammering she did tonight.

It’s time for Fran Vella-Marrone, Chairwoman of the Brooklyn Conservative Party to give up the job as a debate moderator. It’s strange that Vella-Marone thinks it is “fair” to moderate a debate when her organization has endorsed some of the candidates.

Vella-Marone lost control over the debate at the Dyker Heights Civic Association repeatedly tonight. The people at the debate are going to need to take Advil because Vella-Marone kept banging.  Marty Golden tried talking to the crowd, as he usually does and the crowd was completely against him. Fran banged the gavel over and over, but the community was excited to tell off Golden.
