When Someone Else Pushes the Button

Sometimes things aren’t what they seem.
Tonight the tree was lit before the Senator pushed the lever.

November 29, 2018Eric Ulrich was in Bay Ridge with the New Club
Yesterday, Eric Ulrich came to Bay Ridge to speak to the Verrazzano Republicans. Hopefully, Ulrich isn’t relying on this group to lead his campaign, as there was a very low turnout.
The Verrazzano Republicans formed right before the November election, but had absolutely no effect on the election results as Senator Golden, Dan Donovan and Steve Saperstein still lost! See who went: you can scroll around this picture (sad part: there are people there who don’t even live in this borough). More pics here
The Republican Party needs new leadership, but this group isn’t it. McCabe used to at least try to be positive, but now he is going along with his group and criticizing Brannan – when Brannan doesn’t deserve it. After Golden lost, Republicans blamed the team Marty Golden hired, Steeplechase Consulting – Liam is listed as the founded and former owner. Many people noticed that there was hardy any campaigning for Golden – just a lot of flyers in the mail and signs around the neighborhood (but maybe that is all Golden paid for).
A Republican won’t be able to win office here because Nicole Malliotakis and her supporters are very divisive. Since Ulrich didn’t support Malliotakis’ run for mayor, Malliotakis and her team went after Ulrich on social media, in return Ulrich burned Malliotakis with the truth.
If Ulrich went after Malliotakis, I could see people siding with Nicole. Yet, it was clear Eric Ulrich was being trolled and Nicole Malliotakis joined in to attack him because she doesn’t want Ulrich to win. It’s clear where the devisive Republicans are. Even Jerry Kassar joined in to attack Ulrich publically because he doesn’t care about the Republicans – he is a Conservative.
Malliotakis’ staff. who went after Ulrich has gone after me personally because I have shared the truth about Nicole. The same man denied that he was working for Malliotakis, but I found his name on Malliotakis’ campaign finance reports and that he received over $11,000 for one month of work as a consultant, subcontractor or fundraiser (3 different titles). He doesn’t care how many elections Nicole loses, elections are big money to those who are working on them.
Nicole Malliotakis thought nothing was wrong with the way her staff went after residents on Twitter because she wanted to silence anyone who shared the truth.

November 29, 2018Zen in Bay Ridge is Closing
I’ve been going to Zen for many years. It’s my go-to store for gifts for friends and family – especially if I am in a pinch and need to get something fast.
I remember buying incense and incense holders for my friends when the store was called Yizui.
In recent years, I’ve bought the handmade jewelery and home items for birthday gifts.

November 28, 2018The Coop Nixes Renovations and Closes
![]()
The Coop was a well-loved coffee shop at 9504 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge.
When a business in Bay Ridge says it is closing for renovations, residents know that means it is out….out for good. We’ve watched so many storefronts close and put up signs saying they are renovating and then weeks later announced that they were closed for good.
We’ll miss The Coop! The statement on Facebook says the shop may open somewhere else in Bay Ridge….hopefully it will.

November 27, 2018The Reform Party Forum for Public Advocate
John Kenny showed 9 candidates for public advocate.
Bob Capano announced that 11 candidate had confirmed. Whose missing? Jummane Williams and Eric Ulrich…maybe others as it seems like everyone is throwing their hat in for this race. The salary for public advocate is $165,000, so why not!
What happened to Eric Ulrich? Ulrich will be in the area on Wednesday night speaking before Liam’s club, the Verrazzano Republicans (deets here in case you want to go and hear Ulrich speak). Word on the street is someone is going to ask Eric Ulrich why he didn’t support Nicole Malliotakis when she ran for Mayor (see here). Ulrich is of interest to many because he is a moderate Republican which may work well for NYC with a mostly Democratic City Council.
See that’s one of the biggest problems of the Republican Party – they don’t let things go. McCabe should show them the Disney movie, Frozen and get them to sing, “Let it go, Let it go….” This is why they don’t win!
The Reform Party shared a video of the Public Advocate candidates speaking at the forum tonight.
Daniel Christmann is Here to Save Us! (His Words)
Click pic to see Kadia Goba’s video
Jounalist, Kadia Goba of Bklyner posted this interesting clip of Daniel Christmann…..he’s all Brooklyn. I like that. He’s energized and obviously interested in the position. Christmann says he has seen NYCHA housing….I don’t think it’s something you can “just see.” I didn’t get the feeling that Christmann would understand the needs of my students and their families. If Christmann could reign in that energy and listen to people, he might make a good representative one day. His facebook does not help him. A look at Christman’s website shows a lot of bad web design, but some good ideas….some not so good ones too. But he was clever enough to scoop up the domain: nycpublicadvocate.com
I hope Kadia Goba gives us the story on this woman and why Congressman Dan Donovan has an order of protection out against her.

November 27, 2018Christmas Trees in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn
See the 2018 Christmas Events in Bay Ridge here
“Where can I purchase a Christmas tree in Bay Ridge?” “Where can I get the cheapest tree in or around 11209?”
Everyone is looking for fresh wreaths and trees. In Bay Ridge there is:
- 93rd Street and 3rd Avenue – Outside of Rite Aid (see above) – the trees here are good every year. Large trees are around $85 (for 7 ft) – Open all night – My friend gets her tree from here every year and although they are a bit more costly, she swears that the reason her tree lasts all season and are fuller because David’s trees are from Canada. They deliver the trees to your home as well. David is from Quebec.
- Outside of MetFresh on 3rd Avenue and 96th Street (cheaper than David from Canada)
- Imbriale Garden Center 9215 Fort Hamilton Pkwy 718-491-6350 (more expensive than David from Canada)
- All night shop – 81st Street and 3rd Avenue Across the Street from Brooklyn Market are trees
- Mr. Papandrea – 79 Street and 5th Avenue outside of McGuire Realty (a Comedian tweeted this place for his brother whose selling the trees). This year they have a sign so you can call them and have them deliver a tree:
- 75th Street and 3rd Avenue
- The corner of Ovington Avenue and 3rd was selling some small trees, wreaths and painted branches
- Garden Shop on the corner of Ovington and 7th Avenue
- 2018 Update: 86 and 13th Ave . They deliver an 8 foot tree $90
Just outside the neighborhood:
- Cheapest in the neighborhood: JJ’s Christmas Trees 65th and 4th Avenue – under the highway – lowest prices – cheapest trees last – Reyes is there and he’s a nice guy. *In December 2018, they didn’t have as many trees and ran out twice.* The news said there was a shortage of trees.
- FRESHEST TREES: Knights of Columbus in Dyker Heights – 1305 – 86th Street -large selection and more items inside. My friend swears they have the freshest trees – I don’t know if that is true because we don’t get ours there. A 6 food tree cost $60 in December 2017.
- 75th Street and 13th Avenue- they deliver
- David Shannon Florist – 33rd Street and Fort Hamilton – This is a Mom and Pop shop – the Perrottas own it and they are awesome because they can answer any question about any plant!
- 38th Street and 4th Avenue – fresh trees – fraziers and balsams
- Cheapest overall: Home Depot – Large fraser fir or Douglas fir trees are around $45 for a 7 foot. Smaller trees like balsam fir trees are around $35. All trees were $35-$60 range (December 2017)
- **Brooklyn Terminal Market in Canarsie – this is where all the vendors get them from (they have a good Santa here too) – people swear by this place
- Whole Foods on 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue has trees for $35 this year 2018 ($59 last year)

November 26, 2018Daniel O’Donnell Won’t Make a Good Public Advocate
Daniel O’Donnell is running for Public Advocate. While his sister tried to play a part in our elections, Daniel said nothing – zilch – nada.
Here’s what happened: A man named Omar Vaid came from Williamsburg and thought he would run for Bay Ridge’s congressman because he lived here for a year. Vaid pretended he was facing Michael Grimm, when Dan Donovan was the incumbent. Grimm had been to prison, so that made for a good story online.
While Omar Vaid didn’t have much support in the neighborhood. There were no signs, handouts and very little information was in the newspapers. Vaid didn’t even participate in free Q&A booklets. Yet, in the evening, Vaid was getting people on social media to donate to his campaign. Rosie O’Donnell jumped in and donate a few thousand to Vaid’s campaign without knowing anything about our area or if Vaid lived here. Daniel was silent. When the election was over, Vaid was gone and never heard from again.
How can you advocate for the public, when you can’t tell your sister to stay out of a neighborhood’s election?
