Pols Request to Split the R Train Line in Two

See larger here.

Four of our elected representatives sent a letter to Andy Byford requesting that he split the R Train line.

I like that they are working together to come up with some plans for Bay Ridge riders.

Already riders have reservations, but that comes with change.

So far people question:

1) Will this hurt Ridgites who work in lower Manhattan? Another computer solved the issue by stating that they should send the R train up the J line to Essex Street,  instead of dead-ending at Court Street (see here)

2) RadioFreeBr indicated that the solution doesn’t make it easy to continue to Manhattan for someone who is disabled

Feel free to chime in here  The pols from our area are all on Twitter and at least two are reading the comments.

Outside Tops Restaurant Supply Store – 3rd Avenue

Tops Restaurant and Bar Supplies on 3rd Avenue and 80th Street in Bay Ridge had another work of art painted on the side of their building. Blue Eyes – it’s Frank Sinatra. Amazing!

Remember last March….they allowed an artist to add this adorable honeybear to their building.

It’s awesome to see the owner of Tops is so open to artists and beautifying the area. I absolutely love this store because they have everything and the owner is so pleasant!

DeBlasio in Dyker Heights – Crazy Drivers

{See larger pic}

Mayor de Blasio was at IS 259 in Dyker Heights to talk about Vision Zero. Electeds united in this: Senator Gounardes, Assemblymember Frontus & Councilman Brannan. I mention this because this is new for our community – to see them working together and getting things done.

See video

The audience is different than you would think – school was closed so this was just for the press. They should invite at least some representatives of the public to see all this “curtain gathering” and hear the “new plan.”

Interesting pic of the room:

{See Larger – click here and then click on pic}

Polly Trottenberg said they will:

a) Stagger lights

b) Make lights longer so pedestrians can cross

Mayor De Blasio said:

a) More enforsement   *This will continue to be a problem here if the NYPD are not on the streets.

b) More cameras near schools

c) Texting while driving (The Mayor said he had the police ticket a woman who he saw texting while driving – The Post picked up that story)

s

You know it’s big news when Peter Abbate there.

That’s a strange reply the Mayor gave to that question – I bet the biking community is going to take him to task for it. (See here

Senator Gounardes talked about his grandmother losing a daughter due to an accident. Gounardes said deaths are preventable.

Senator Gounardes spoke about changing the culture that drives people to speed. Gounardes supports speed cameras in front of school (so do I because the driving near schools is crazy). Gounades is a good guy and he’s going to do the right thing for our district.

Eric Adams is No Where to Be Found as Hatred Busts the Community Seams of Brooklyn

As usual, Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams is no where to be found as hatred busts at the community seams in Brooklyn.

Eric Adams doesn’t do anything when hatred happens – it is silenced for a few seconds as he takes a picture, but that’s about it. We have seen this happen over and over in Brooklyn.

Now a community leader has taken aim at another community leader!

On Sunday, Februry 17th,  Chaim Deutsch, a NYC Councilman called out Linda Sarsour and  Ilhan Omar (a Muslim Congresswoman from Minnesota) because he believed that these woman are the cause of more antisemitic attacks in his community:

So blame the female leaders and then say heyyyyyy stand together??

This was very out of character for Councilman Deutsch. I guess he is getting tired of hearing that his community is scared because all of this is very alarming when you hear how upset (and scared) people are to just go to worship in the synagogue.

Here’s the problem – Deutsch’s callout added to a bigger problem….scapegoating someone for the problem.

Other community leaders from the Jewish community in Brooklyn jumped in to stir the pot:

More hate went to Linda Sarsour, who did not publicly comment or throw shade back at Coucilman Deutsch…..which is how it usually goes on social media. This is not. good…..to throw blame at an individual in Brooklyn is like throwing a lit fire into a small room.

The Muslim Democrats and Yalla defended Sarsour and they say she is not using her platform to defend anti-Semitism:

The Muslim Democrats in Bay Ridge supported Mark Treyger for District Leader in the last election, so they should be able to call on Treyger as Treyger and Deutsch are friendly.

Where’s Eric Adams? It’s Monday afternoon and he has said nothing. Absent as usual…..off doing something else as he was when there was problems at the MDC Prison……it took him days to get to the prison. Why hasn’t Adams offered Sarsour support and Deutsch help in his community? If he was doing something, there would be pictures all over the place (and cheesy reporting too). NOTHING.

Update: Other leaders such as Mark Treyger and Corey Johnson are silent. These are people who claim they stand up against hate….except when they can’t…….Councilman Deutsch’s comment was deleted and no one commented except Carlos Menchaca said something.

.

Eric Adams is term-limited so I will be glad to see his term end and get someone who is interested in supporting and building Brooklyn!

Corey Johnson’s Deleted Tweet – Offends PBA

Corey Johnson deleted tweet NYPD - PBA not happy

On Valentine’s Day, Speaker Corey Johnson forgot that he announced he was running for mayor! He tweeted what is in the dark box below:

The NYPD PBA certainly didn’t like Cojo’s Tweet as they just lost Detective Brian Simonsen on February 12th. Is Johnson that disconnected that he didn’t realize what happened just a few days earlier?

Today, February 18th, The NY Post reported Speaker Johnson’s 2/14 deleted tweet and wrote that he apologized.  See here.

Why I am Glad Marty Golden is No Longer Representing Bay Ridge

Senator Gounardes and the current people representing us in Albany finally passed the Child Victims Act in New York. The new law allows people to hold their abusers accountable both criminally and civilly

The bill is just a common sense and obvious bill that should have been passed years ago. When Golden was called out about it, Golden played dumb and pretended he didn’t know which bill (embarrassing)

Conversations about sexual harassment in the workplace also didn’t happen while Golden was in office. See the video Senator Gounardes shared. You can see why his background as an attorney really helps here.

Finally, I appreciate Senator Gounardes making Albany more transparent from his weekly updates, videos and  pictures – that’s something we haven’t seen before. It’s great that he is sharing what bills he is voting on and how he voted.  It’s a different feeling….like Senator Gounardes represents the people – while Marty represented Marty.
