Doing Donuts on Shore Road
![]()
A Shore Road resident tweeted the picture above and below to Councilman Justin Brannan after becoming frustrated with people doing donuts in Bay Ridge. Imagine having to listen to this all night?

Just in case you aren’t from Brooklyn or wondering what the term “doing donuts” means –> The tire marks left on the street while doing a speed turn resemble donuts. Councilman Brannan shared this photo on April 22nd:

Today, Channel 2 Covered this story here
Henry Rosoff of WPIX 11 News picked up the story and has videos of people doing donuts.

The real question here is: Will Captain Robert Conwell of the 68th Precinct do anything about it? My guess is no.
Captain Conwell isn’t that responsive to the community. In Dyker Heights, Conwell promised more traffic enforcement and parents haven’t seen any change. Maybe he is too busy or just doesn’t see driving issues a priority.
Last Spring, many new police officers were assigned to Bay Ridge through the community policing program. Where are the police officers for that Shore Road/Pier zone? It seems like the officers stay in the police station because residents here don’t see them.
One time we thought we saw an officer on the street. My husband caught up to him to ask him a question. The officer said he wasn’t part of the program and was just ticketing cars (we have plenty of those). We have never seen any beat cops in Bay Ridge.
People have been doing donuts in that area for a lonnnnnnnnnnng time. I am sure the 68th Precinct has known about this for a long time.

April 23, 2019Measles in Brooklyn
A few communities in Brooklyn are seeing a measles outbreak….but not really an outbreak. Some parents are against vaccinations – some are just worried as many people believe autism is caused by vaccines.

The most popular age group is 1-4 years old.
I’m glad most people are vaccinated.

April 22, 2019Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Will Be Sold in Bay Ridge
Update: Bagel Story’s Scoops n Cookies Shop is now serving Van Leeuwen ice cream. They also have other ice cream, so make sure to look for the VL menu if you are looking for Van Leeuwen ice cream
Bay Ridge is buzzing with happiness over the news the Bagel Story will be selling Van Leeuwen Ice Cream on Third Avenue. (This is not a Van Leeuwen scoop shop).
Bagel Story at 8501 3rd Avenue divided up their space and made a walk-up counter named Scoops n Cookies that people can pick up their ice cream.

Other vegan ice cream is sold in Bay Ridge now too – see here
Van Leeuwen is a Brooklyn company and they make the ice cream in our borough! Bagel Story bought a few flavors of the well known ice cream.
The Bay Ridge Menu was shared! But a lot of the flavors are crossed out because they are not available.

Van Leeuwen has flavors for vegans and they make some non-dairy flavors as well, for people who are lactose intolerant.
Whole Foods sells Van Leeuwen ice cream pints for $8.00 – $10.00, but if someone is lactose intolerant or vegan, they are used to paying more for specialty items.
Last year, The Coop, which has since gone out of business, had their ice cream. (See here)
Van Leeuwen’s strawberry ice cream is very good.
Some people complain that this is a “hipster-type place.” Don’t worry about it – be like the hipsters and enjoy the ice cream this Summer!
