RIP Office Brian Mulkeen

Hero Police Officer Brian Mulkeen was killed early this morning, September 29th. He was only 33 years old. Sadly, he died from friendly fire as his backup team tried to get the bad guy.

Mulkeen and two other officers were investigating gang activity at the Edenwald Houses, a public housing complex in the city’s Bronx borough. The suspect was also killed. See here, here and here.

Prayers for Brian’s family and  girlfriend, who is also an NYPD Police Officer at the 44th precinct.

Progressives – 68th Precinct Stats Are Different from 62nd Precinct Stats

The sky isn’t falling, but Progressives in Bay Ridge don’t want us to know crime is up in almost every category in the 68th Precinct. Statistics aren’t going to scare people, unless leaders do nothing about this rise and it continues.

Notice the third column:  % Change.  When the first column is a number hire than the second column, there is a percent change. Most columns, someone put a dash so the % change couldn’t be recorded.

Robbery:  there were 2 in 2019…..none in 2018. Robbery is up (not by a lot, it shouldn’t be showing a dash) 

We need a patrol car on the streets in Bay Ridge.  Get the NCOs off the computers and put them in patrol cars. No disrespect to the NCO’s, but you would think people who became police officers would like to be where there is a bit more action. I would think they would want to get out of the office and look around.   

Male Progressives were giving me a hard time on Twitter yesterday because they think by speaking about crime, people will get scared. Chill out guys and stick to the facts.

The first time I spoke to Justin Brannan,  he worked for Councilman Gentile. Back then, I inquired about patrol cars for the mosque after an incident concerning safety came up. I wasn’t checking that Councilman Gentile was doing his job, I was letting him know that security was important to us.  People should feel safe in their community and a police presence is necessary after any incidents occur.  

In the 62nd Precinct, the police patrol the streets.  Crime is very low there. Look:

Politicians think no one is watching, so they just say anything. The sad part is when other politicians repeat it, even though they know it isn’t true.

Welcome Juicy Chicken!

Juicy Chicken moved into 7021  – 3rd Avenue, where the Fig and Olive Tree Restaurant used to be.  718-630-1113.  Our friend visited and said his chicken was juicy and his kids loved the popcorn.

It is not the same owners (Nadia and Said)  of Fig and Olive Tree.  This storefront was rented fast. Danny is the new owner.

Starting on September 30th, Ridgites will be able to order from Juicy Fried Chicken (it’s name in print) on Grubhub and Seamless.  They have:

When Facts Aren’t Facts, You Can’t Call On Them

This week, there was a home invasion burglary in Bay Ridge. Info here. I waited before sharing it because I hoped it wasn’t real. 

On social media,  men are acting like that didn’t happen and talking about how SAFE the neighborhood is.  Seriously, are they that out of touch?  Do they know that a home invasion happened here?  The comments on this are absurd 

THERE ARE SINGLE MOTHERS AND ELDERLY LIVING HERE.  And if you live near where this happened, you probably don’t feel safe. A burglary is A LOT different than someone stealing a bike from an unlocked garage or backyard.

Why are people who don’t live in Bay Ridge writing about the twisted statistics of our neighborhood as if they are facts?  Everyone who lives here, knows the stats are tainted. I’ve been writing about it for years (see here….notice the date on that). Mansplaining fake statistics doesn’t change the facts for residents!  

You don’t live here – talk about your own neighborhood stats!  We all know someone, who has called the 68th precinct and couldn’t get a patrol car to come out. 

MOST UPSETTING: In May, parents whose boys met the Bay Ridge flasher, called the police repeatedly for hours and couldn’t get a patrol car to come to their home until they told Councilman Brannan what happened. The police arrived immediately after Brannan contacted them.  THAT’S NOT HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK!  If you looked at how close the family lived to the precinct, you would find it alarming.  (More info here) We are just lucky that guy was caught and the situation wasn’t worse. Nothing was rectified after this situation. 

The politicians in the area didn’t do ANYTHING about it.  The problem is two-fold. The NYPD not responding to calls is a problem. It’s not a shortage of staff because a lot of officers were added (so let’s not pretend we are still short-staffed). Mayor de Blasio wants certain stats and he’s being provided those stats. If calls are answered, the crime statistics are going to go up. 

Is Bay Ridge dangerous…no – but we are having problems and we need patrol cars. We have asked for patrol cars for several years. We were promised patrol cars through the NCO Program, but that program is a bust here (I hear the NCO program works better in Bensonhurst). The disconnect between what residents here need and what they are receiving is real.   Yes, it is an urban area, but it’s not too much to ask the police to patrol regularly…even semi-regularly. 

It’s strange that men would use social media to mansplain safety like it wasn’t important to people! It’s important! In fact, it’s so important to many of us.

Imagine being a 75-year-old senior citizen who lives near that home that was burglarized and no one is doing anything to make him or her feel safer? 

I don’t live near there, but I would be really annoyed if I was a senior and no one was talking about securing the area and police patrols stepping it up.

Owner Found – Bay Ridge

  Update: Owner located.

They brought your dog to Harlem.  I guess that’s what animal shelter was open this evening or that’s where someone lived who could bring your dog somewhere safe. 

Your dog is alive and well (because when a dog leaves their home, they could get hit by a car or someone could have taken them.
