February 7, 2026Chili Cookoff for Superbowl Sunday in Bay Ridge

On Sunday, February 8th, there will be a chili cookoff before the game from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm at Kelly’s Tavern at 9259 – 5th Avenue. Chili lovers, go enjoy all the different tastes!!

The chili cookoff used to be held at a bar that went out of business, so we are glad to see the tradition continuing!

Indigo Murphy’s on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 71st Street has BINGO at 5:30 pm.

SOMETIMES The Bean Post at 7525 – 5th Avenue has BINGO at 2:00 pm and their flyers look like this. They post them here:

Every Monday:
Bay Ridge Senior Center at 15 Bay Ridge Avenue has BINGO at 1:00 pm for members. You can see it on the schedule here.
Every Tuesday:
1) St Finbar’s Golden Age Club at 138 Bay 20th Street has BINGO on Tuesdays at 10:00 am. 718-236-3312

2) PC’s Bar at 7215 – 5th Avenue. Kim has BINGO at 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm (Usually with a complimentary buffet or snacks)

Wednesdays:
1) St Ephrem’s Friendship Club 929 Bay Ridge Pkwy has BINGO on Wednesdays from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. They play cards, bingo and talk with friends. It is in the Msgr. Peter V Kain Hall.
2) Schnitzel House will be opening at 114 Bay Ridge Avenue in the Spring. They had BINGO with a buffet.
3) Bingo at Delia’s Lounge on the first Wednesday of every month. Delia’s is at 9224 3rd Avenue. They have good food. (Thanks Paul!)

Fridays
1) Bay Ridge Center at 15 Bay Ridge Avenue has BINGO on Fridays at 1:00 pm for members of the Center.

2) DaVinci Pizza at 6514 18th Avenue has BINGO sometimes on Fridays at 7:00 pm.

But it’s huge because it’s downstairs – like a big old style school cafeteria!

It’s open every day, except Tuesday from 6:00 – 10:00 pm. They start calling numbers by 7.
It’s $3 to enter and $.50 cents per card. You also need little chips or an inker (they sell them for $1) to mark the numbers called.
Money won: $20 win per boards – split between all winners. The final blackout BINGO is $1000 or $2000
Inexpensive food and drinks can be purchased from the women, who bring it to your table. Prices are low – $.95 to $4.95 (a hamburger is $3)

February 6, 2026Cars Broken Into on 71st and 74th Streets Between Ridge and Colonial in Bay Ridge

This week, a car parked on 74th between Ridge and Colonial (the north side of the stairs)was broken into and they stole jumper cables, battery restarter and pump for tires.
Two weeks ago, several cars were broken into on 71st Street between Ridge and Colonial Road. One man was parked in front of his garage and his garage door opener was in the car. The thief stole everything in his car and garage as well.

February 6, 2026RIP Jane Kelly – BayRiginal

Jane Kelly died on February 5, 2026, at home in Bay Ridge at the age of 104.

Clavin Funeral Parlor shared this:
Jane moved to Bay Ridge in 1951. She taught fourth grade for over 20 years at Our Lady of Angels School.
Jane was very active in the community starting in 1968. She was president of the Bay Ridge Community Council, the Bay Ridge Council for Mental Health, and the Lutheran Medical Center Auxiliary.
In addition, she was a member of the Bay Ridge Council on Aging and the 68th Precinct Community Council. She was Parliamentarian for the Bay Ridge Community Council and legislative chair for the AARP Bay Ridge Chapter, Lutheran Medical Center Auxiliary and Bay Ridge Council on Aging. She was a member of the Advisory Board of the Bay Ridge Center and a trustee of the Kassenbrock Scholarship Fund. Additionally, Jane was a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
She received the Bay Ridge Community Council’s Civic Award, Brooklyn College’s Woman of the Year Award for Community Service, the United Hospital Fund Auxilian of the Year Award, City Council Proclamation for Outstanding Contributions to the People of Bay Ridge, the Bay Ridge BPW Woman of the Year Award, and awards from Our Lady of Angels’ Rosary Society, the Brooklynwide Interboro Agency Council on the Aging, the Bay Ridge Mental Health Council and the Bay Ridge Bicentennial Committee.
Her funeral mass is on Tuesday, February 10th at 10:15 am at Our Lady of Angels Church at 7320 – 4th Avenue.

February 5, 2026RIP Amira Aminova – An Eleven Year Old Girl Was Killed By A School Bus in Bath Beach, Brooklyn

This afternoon, Amira Aminova, an eleven-year-old girl was killed while crossing the street after school.

Amira was crossing at the corner and she had the light. She ran across the street and she was hit by a school bus that did not stop on 23rd Avenue and Bath Avenue. News:

The school bus driver, 62-year-old Wawa Aurelus didn’t stop. He and the bus were located by the police and he was arrested. The news article says he may not have known he hit the Amira.

Senator Steve Chan shared what happened with the community. He said he is devastated and he asked for people to pray for this girl’s family. I don’t live in his district, but I am impressed that he is always present for the community.
Councilwoman Susan Zhuang is equally as good in communicating with the community.
