October 26, 2019NYC Ballot Proposals – 4 No’s and a Yes
There are several ballot proposals this coming election. Usually I like ballot proposals, but most of these are just sneaky. See ballot proposals here and read opinions here.
We’re voting 4 No’s and then a Yes to the last one.
a) The first ballot proposal is to rank your voting choices. While this sounds great because it gives you choice and saves the city money since there doesn’t have to be a runoff election. Yet, this proposal can be exploited by a political party. The Democrats can pack the ballot with candidates. As they eliminate candidates from the bottom of the ballot, their second choice will go to the next candidate. Essentially, the Democratic Party will push this proposal because they will get the votes from the losing Libertarian, Socialist, Green Party Candidates. These pols are slick! (This proposal is going to pass because no one is talking about the abuse of this proposal).
b) The second proposal has to do with the NYPD. While we supported the firing of Daniel Panteleo, we still believe in the NYPD. Did you see the 68th Precinct’s Fail this week? There are problems in the NYPD, but that’s because there are few bad police officers in the job. Yet, there are soooooooo many great officers and Commission James O’Neill does a good job. Problems are in certain precincts and all officers shouldn’t be penalized with this proposal because of the few bad cops that exist in the system. Attacking the NYPD as a whole needs to stop. (This proposal will get voted in because NY has too many people that are anti-NYPD).
c) The third proposal has five unrelated issues together on the ballot. The proposal started out well, but they hid some items in the proposal. It was purposely done to push something through without people noticing. (This will probably pass because NY’ers won’t reading everything).
d) City Council has already been doing a rainy day fund. I heard Corey Johnson mention this twice already. We are taxed like crazy in Bay Ridge, so no you can not have a rainy day fund.
e) The last proposal gives Community Boards power over development. Hell Yeah. Critics claim this will slow down affordable housing……PLEASEEEEE there is nothing affordable about affordable housing – it’s just politicians and developers having a relationship in your community like this. Developers love to push things through during the Winter when no one is watching, so slowing them down is a good thing.

October 26, 2019Bay Ridge Vote Early at Fort Hamilton HS
Early voting begins today in NYC. Find your early voting site here.
For many in Bay Ridge, Fort Hamilton High School is the early voting site.
NYC hired a lot of people to have early voting sites. Having weekend hours was a great idea, but they didn’t need a whole week of voting. Can you imagine how much this is going to cost the city? But money is used like it is water, so there’s no one in NYC government who thought we could do three days instead of eight.

October 25, 2019Superfresh is Going in the Old Walgreens in Dyker
Rumors were that Trader Joes was considering the vacant drugstore’s spot on on 13th Avenue and 70th Street.
Today everyone was chattering about Superfresh hanging their sign on the store. They also added the address to the Superfresh site.
Superfresh is a decent store. It’s not TJ’s, but it is good. Prices are fair, especially if you use the flyer.
There is a Superfresh in Bay Ridge at 242 Bay Ridge Avenue.

October 25, 2019Max Rose Wants Cabrini to Be Recognized
Mayor de Blasio’s wife was part of a group which asked NY’er to submit names of women who should be honored with a statue. Even though Mother Cabrini received the most votes, that was ignored probably due to Francis Cabrini being a Catholic.
People wanted Cabrini to be recognized as a NYC woman who made a contribution. In August, when this initially happened, Councilman Brannan wrote a letter asking for a reconsideration – it was ignored.
Italians rallied and made their voices heard before and after the Columbus Day parade. Mayor de Blasio said there would be a second round of statues.
Then Cuomo said he was using state funds to buy a statue.
Now Congressman Rose would like to give Mother Cabrini recognition by naming the Dyker Heights Post Office after her. I think Max Rose wants the people to know that he recognizes there was an oversight and he wants to do something to honor Francis Cabrini for her contribution to NYC history. See here

October 25, 2019Four Firefighters Were Injured in Yesterday’s Fire
There was a fire last night at 8214 – 3rd Avenue and 83rd Street. See here.
There was construction at that site this Summer: (June 2019)
Loudlabs shared this: “According to officials, four firefighters were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and transported to Lutheran Hospital in stable condition. Cause of the fire to be determined by fire marshalls.”

October 24, 2019Fire on 3rd Avenue and 83rd Street
Did you hear all the sirens? The firemen raced to 8214 – 3rd Avenue to put out a fire. The building that had the fire was under construction.
