March 15, 2020Social Distancing Will Hurt Bay Ridge Businesses
Life changed a bit since we heard about the coronavirus, but more today with schools closing.
Now restaurants and bars can only do take out and delivery because we have to do social distancing.
![]()
Sam’s Bagels at 7715 5th Avenue removed their tables and chairs because of social distancing (it’s recognizable by the floor and great bagels).
Three Guys from Brooklyn on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 65th Street were smart and closed down their popular self-serve olive and salad bar because they don’t want germs to be spread.
Movie theaters, night clubs must close by 8:00 pm on March 16th. This morning (3/16), gyms appeared on that list.
Bay Ridge Businesses we love you and need you. The Mayor’s order will go into effect Tuesday, March 17 at 9:00 AM. But guys we need to know whose selling corned beef and carrots – St. Paddy’s Day must go on!
Businesses please get on Instagram and show us pictures of your items/specials. Use the Hashtag #BayRidge
People are desiring simple sandwiches and soup lately. We’ve needed a soup pickup shop in Bay Ridge for a long time now! Who is going to make that happen? (Seriously, I have been asking for a soup shop for two years now!)
Some of you may need to alter what you sell to help us. Customers need more in smaller areas. A pet store on 5th Avenue started selling hand sanitizer because they know people need it! (Eleven people left messages within 10 hours of this being posted asking which pet store – Brooklyn Pet Supply at 8403 5th Avenue 646-628-6314 because they want to purchase hand sanitizer – $2.49 for 4 ounces).
Any store who is able to sell coronavirus essentials such as antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, lysol and alcohol should – as residents are having difficulty finding them! Cheap and fun craft kits for kids are needed.
I appreciate the places which have made walk-up windows and who are doing hands-free deliveries though Seamless.
Someone shared the graphic below on Facebook, but most Bay Ridge restaurants are not selling gift certificates online (we found a few that were). Contact Bulldog Tech at 7515 3rd Avenue 718-921-6159 to get a website up or make selling gift certificates an option on your site! Your community wants to support you!

Finally, I need someone to deliver a real good bloody mary because it’s been one of those weeks! Think about it….parents are going to need a recovery drink in the evening!
FINALLY….LET THAT BID NONSENSE DIE. In a time like this, you can see why a BID would be the worse thing for businesses. Our Merchants need us and they need to work together as Community Merchants!

March 15, 2020NYC Schools are Closed to April 20th
![]()
I’m relieved that NYC schools are closed especially when I saw this:
My husband had cancer two years ago and that makes him part of the high risk group. I feared getting the coronavirus germs and passing it to him. (Lee doesn’t consider himself in the high risk group and was not worried….he never worries).
By the way, Lee’s cancer was detected super early by Dr. Richard Funaro in Bay Ridge.
If you don’t like doctors or haven’t been to one in awhile, go see Dr. Funaro. Lee doesn’t mind going to him: Dr. Funaro is at 450 Bay Ridge Pkwy 718-836-6330.

March 15, 2020Across the Street From Poly Prep
The 68th Precinct told us that they towed the trucks across the street from Poly Prep and near the VA Hospital.
![]()
BUT SOME TRUCKS GET SKIPPED AND DON’T GET TOWED – LOOK:
![]()
![]()
We’re glad the driver of a camper stopped there to sleep, rather than fall asleep driving and kill someone on the BQE because he is so exhausted.
![]()
But most of the parking that is done on this street is done because it is free storage.
Yes, this across the street from Poly Prep School.
![]()
The truck in the picture above and below is the most concerning.
WHAT’S INSIDE THAT NEEDS OXYGEN?? Fish?
![]()
Obviously, this location is being published somewhere because many people know that it is a location that huge trailers could go unnoticed for a long time.
I didn’t have my phone out when I was on the other side of the golf course. There was a car dealership trailer holding about 8 vehicles on two levels parked there.
The NYPD could station the the ticketing police (formerly Brownies) here, rather than on 3rd Avenue.

March 15, 2020What’s Happening at Joe’s Appliances?
![]()
What’s happening at Joe’s Appliances at 7812 5th Avenue?
Maybe a store makeover?
Their Facebook page shows a cool wine refrigerator setup.
The empty store on the left was the produce store that closed awhile back.
