The staff at the Veteran’s Hospital in Bay Ridge doesn’t have supplies to protect themselves as they care for their patients. Story here
It’s the story we are hearing all over our country and it’s awful that we aren’t able to protect those who are caring for those who are sick.

April 6, 2020Coronavirus Hit My Family
Update: My brother-in-law is a lot better, but still not 100%
When the quarantine started, we took it seriously because we have several elderly family members. We haven’t seen them in person for several weeks.
For the past few days, my brother-in-law hadn’t been feeling well. We didn’t think anything of it because he is healthy and fit.
His health declined quickly and his wife drove him to the hospital. She wasn’t allowed to stay with him. Last June, they were married. My brother-in-law was a widower for many years and our family was thrilled he found love again. We knew this had to be awful for her.
NJ hospitals have rapid testing and they told him right away that he was positive for coronavirus. He had pneumonia too. The doctors wrote him prescriptions and sent him home. His wife turned around and picked him up.
We waited for text messages with updates to the family. Fevers, chills, sleeping and no change didn’t bring a lot of hope.
Finally, my brother-in-law texted that he was feeling better. Lee dialed his number fast. While he’s still sick, he feels better and not so run down. Thank God.
My brother-in-law didn’t know anyone who had coronavirus. He stayed home for several weeks, except for going out for groceries.
Please take precautions when you go out.
*Thank you for the prayers and kind words. A few of you asked if my sister-in-law had coronavirus. She has no symptoms, but they are anticipating it. My sister-in-law is also healthy and has no medical issues.

April 6, 2020Gloves Thrown Around the Avenue
Went for a walk in Bay Ridge today. I know it’s a stressful time, but can we put the trash where it belongs? #coronavirus pic.twitter.com/L6Xpfe2nN2

People are getting tired of other people throwing their old gloves on the ground. It’s medical waste – throw it in the garbage can.

April 5, 2020Speaking Out……Being Truthful
If you are Irish, you understand when people try to hide or cover the truth.
Tonight, a woman wanted to tell me who I am and what I should and shouldn’t write about. She didn’t want people to know the truth.
We don’t live in lies. If I wrote something here that isn’t pleasant, I did so because I know my neighbors needed to know. If I didn’t say anything, then I would be part of the problem.
Say what you need to say – for yourself, for those you love, for your neighbors and community. It’s okay if the truth isn’t pretty.
At the end of the day everyone has to face their God. You either get to sleep or rehash your day if you did it wrong.
Thank you to everyone who reads this blog and keeps it real with me.

April 5, 2020Msgr. Cassato at St. A’s Uses Facebook for Mass
While the Coronavirus Pandemic rages through New York City and keeps people indoors, Monsignor Cassato of St. Athanasius Church uses Facebook to reach parishioners.
Last week, St. Anthanasius’ online mass had 2,000 viewers!
If you haven’t seen mass today – take a listen. Monsignor Cassato is so alive while he reads the Gospel.
Msgr. Cassato is charming. See his video about Alexa here….which made our Alex work.
St A’s is very connected as they have mass in both English and Spanish.

April 5, 2020Check in With the Merchants, Steering Committee!
![]()
It’s great to plan for the future. It’s not great that a group of people are planning for other people’s future when the haven’t even checked on these business owners.
Pushing a BID for nine months in regular times didn’t work. (Yes, they have been beating this dead horse since July 2019.) In April 2020, many businesses are fighting to stay open – most have been ordered closed by the city. Why is the Steering Committee so disconnected?
Pushing a BID during a pandemic is just mean. You all know better.
Chuck Otey, the journalist who wrote the article is on the steering committee. Chuck wrote about the BID this and it didn’t work. Otey thinks he can sway the community with an article (those days are long gone Chuck….Chuck reads this blog on occassion and wrote me two mean messages)
Ridgites want the merchants in our area to survive in 2020.
