Gourmet Fresh Expands on 86th Street

Gourmet Fresh in Bay Ridge is expanding!

The corner grocery store is extending their store into the empty shop next door (it used to be Broadway Pizza).

That’s great news – especially during this pandemic!

Face Shields and N95’s at The Beer Store

On the corner of 3rd Avenue and 94th Street is the “Its Not a Beer Store.”

The store’s real name is Organic Girl 9401 – 3rd Avenue.

They sell face shield and N95 masks.

The plastic face shields are $7.00.

The store’s awning has the words “It’s Not a Beer Store” on the 94th Street side to imply they don’t just sell beer.

RIP Kristy Shi – Gone Too Soon

Kristy Shi, a 19-year Sunset Park resident jumped from the  Verrazzano Narrows Bridge on Saturday, April 25th before 9:00 pm.   Story  here

NINETEEN.

Whatever was going on in Kristy Shi’s life must have been pretty bad. She got into a cab and she got out of the car on the  lower level of the bridge. My heart hurts just thinking about how much pain she must have been in to do that.

UPDATE 4/28: The wife of the driver left the saddest comment below. What was said wasn’t released by newspapers.

NINETEEN.

First responders flooded the bridge and below it in the water. The following day,  the news reported they were still looking. Her body was found in NJ the next morning. See here and here

NINETEEN.

Kristy’s home was just three blocks from where I used to live.

Kristy was a college student at Smith College in Massachusetts.

NINETEEN.

RIP Kristy.  Gone way too soon.

Prayers for Kristy’s family and friends.

Because the coranavirus pandemic is going on and everything is shutdown, Kristy won’t even receive a regular funeral/wake.

We pray for them tonight:

Give comfort and strength to those who mourn for Kristy.

Keep them in your care and help them

We ask this in faith, through Christ, Our Lord.

Amen.

Only 100 feet of fencing was added to  the Verrazzano Bridge this year. They said they were trying out the material to see how it handles in the wind and would do the rest when they were done testing it.

Hopefully, they will close it up soon so more families don’t have to suffer from losing a loved one this way.

RIP Marc Lamparello

We knew a 38 year-old New Jersey man jumped from the Verrazzano bridge, but no other information was available. Story here

Marc Lamparello was a CUNY adunct philosophy professor and a PHD candidate. He was arrested in April 2019 for alledgedly bringing four cans of gas and a lighter to  St. Patrick’s Cathedral, while off his schizophrenia medications.   (Source)

In June 2019, it was revealed that prisoners weren’t being access to ThriveNYC, the mental health initiative that Mayor de Blasio’s wife leads. See source

RIP Professor. This is so sad because this man went through all this work to get a PhD and his life ended so tragically because the courts released him without the proper support.

Campania is BACK – Open in Bay Ridge

Welcome Back Campania!

Campania is known for their coal fired pizza.

But if you like chicken wings, you need to try Campania’s wings. Most people don’t know they make the best wings in Bay Ridge. The hot sauce and blue cheese dressing come in containers on the sides, but you could eat these wings without any sauce because they are good.

The dedicated Campania customers were standing outside yesterday in a line – socially distant to get their dinner!  The website  www.campanianyc.com
