Closed Store on 18th Avenue Had a Pipe Burst

Kids Place was a children’s clothing (and uniform) store at 6509 – 18th Avenue. It’s been closed since the end of 2025.

Today a pipe burst and water was coming out onto the street. Since it is cold, the sidewalk iced over fast and people were falling on the black ice. The fire department was called.

Senator Steve Chan sent his staffer to 18th Avenue and he shared that the water was turned off.

Alec Brooks-Krasny Talked About Not Raising Property Taxes…Chris McCreight Cries About It

Chris McCreight doesn’t understand that Governor Kathy Hochul is not going to “tax the rich.” Mayor Mandami will increase property taxes on middle class New Yorkers.

For many years, Chris McCreight has not spoken out against high property taxes in Bay Ridge. McCreight stayed silent while Justin Brannan wrote articles about property taxes, but wouldn’t tell Andrew Gounardes to do his job in Albany.

If you rent, you want to be part of this conversation because any increase in property taxes will raise your rent.

Hate Crime Not Recorded By 68th Precinct

On Friday, January 30th, a woman from Staten Island hit three females in Bay Ridge. All were wearing a hijabs (one was a child outside of her school at dismissal time. The woman was arrested five days later. The police and politicians failed to share with the community what happened.

The 68th Precinct Precinct failed to list it as a hate crime the week it happened and this week as well – zero hate crimes are listed on Compstats.

No one can say crime is down in the 68th Precinct because it is up 7% this passed week compared to last week. Crime is up in the 68th Precinct 17% compared to last year.

Kaya Bliss Lounge is Getting Ready to Open

Kaya Bliss is the cannabis dispensary that opened last year on 3rd Avenue and 84th Street (where Pilo Arts used to be).

The owner made shared the video below on Instagram and showed the new Kaya Bliss Lounge next door to the Kaya Bliss Dispensary – it looks nice. Then he explained that you and your grandmother can go there and smoke together. My grandmothers weren’t into cannabis. Yours?

I don’t remember Kaya Bliss telling Community Board 10 that there was going to be lounge for people to use the products.

In NYS, there are Breathalyzer tests to tell if someone has been drinking before driving. NYS does not employ any tests to check if someone is high from cannabis while driving.
