The 18th Avenue Feast in Brooklyn – August 2026

“When is the 18th Avenue Feast?” is usually the question people ask me as soon as Spring comes around.

Also known as the Festa di Santa Rosalia, this year is the 52nd Anniversary of the Feast of St. Rosalie.

The 18th Avenue Italian feast will be held from Thursday, August 20th to Sunday, August 30th from 68th Street to 75th Street.

People love to go on the first night because they are excited. Angelo Venuto’s family performs at 8:00 pm.

The Feast opens at 6:00 pm and closes at 11:00 pm. On the weekend, it opens at 2:00 pm.

The annual Cannoli Eating Contest is on Monday, August 24th at 6:30 pm outside of Villabate Bakery at 7001 – 18th Avenue (71st Street)

Oh yeah and the feast is different now than when you were younger. It still has the same magic for teens, who are enjoying a Summer night with their friends.

Real Estate Broker Explains the Visitation Sale and Why Bay Ridge Needs to Watch The Future of This Property

Peter Mancini, a Brooklyn real estate broker, recently wrote about the sale of the Visitation property and why Bay Ridge residents should pay close attention to what happens to this property in the future. Read Mancini’s article here

Mancini mentioned that Brooklyn Community Board 10 (CB 10) will be involved in the changes that take place. This is important because CB 10 has not always made decisions that some residents believe are in the best interest of the community. For example, in April 2021, CB 10 voted to approve the use of the property at 88th Street and 5th Avenue for a school. More than four years later, the property is still unusable because it requires a Brownfield Cleanup. Info: here

I found the beginning of Peter Mancini’s article interesting, but I was disappointed that this real estate expert did not discuss the most important issues facing this property: New York City’s City of Yes zoning changes and the additional changes that NYC Council approved and are scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.

A huge housing development on this property could significantly increase the number of people living in the area. That could put additional pressure on local schools, sewers, public transportation, streets, parking and other infrastructure.

Camper Life on Shore Road in Bay Ridge AGAIN

Bay Ridge residents who care about the community and keeping it safe have shared photos of the camper parked on Shore Road again.

This area is not zoned for mobile homes, so by now the 68th Precinct police should have stepped in. In NYC, a mobile home can not be parked on a street for more than 24 hours. Info:

Senator Andrew Gounardes was a strong supporter of the City of Yes. Under the City of Yes, that mobile home can be parked and lived in someone’s backyard as an Accessory Dwelling Unit. Info:

In last January this year, NYC Council introduced legislation to stop people from living in mobile homes in NYC. Our NYC Council Representative, Kayla Santosuosso is not on the bill for this legislation:

Vinny’s Pet Store Said Goodbye to Bay Ridge

Vinny’s Pet Store at 451 Bay Ridge Avenue has closed for good. They left the above goodbye message on Facebook.

The owner really loved being a part of the community. He had a community refrigerator at his shop to help people in the area. He always dressed up as Santa to take pictures at Christmas time. And many cats were able to get adopted because of Vinny’s Pet Shop.

Vinny’s Pet Store will be missed by many Ridgites.

Bay Ridge Resident Hit By Moped Calls on Kayla Santosuosso To Take Action

A Bay Ridge resident wrote about being hit by a moped and the driver taking off. She tagged Council Representative Kayla Santosuosso:

Today, I was crossing the street with the right of way when a moped passed a stopped car, crossed over the double yellow lines and hit me. I was thrown into the opposite lane and, thankfully, there wasn’t a car coming from the other direction. The driver then fled the scene, leaving me bruised and shaken.

Santosuosso responded:

By now Santosuosso should have introduced legislation to put license plates on all motorized bikes and scooters. Santosuosso doesn’t seem to understand that these vehicles speeding and taking off after a collision are a problem in Bay Ridge.
