Pied-a-Tere Tax – Whose Being Billed in Bay Ridge?

NY’ers who have secondary homes in NY were sent letters this week.

Some people received the letter, even though the property they own is their primary residence. They have to go to the website and apply for the exemption by August 21, 2026 (short turn around – especially for the Summer):

NYC Council Representative, Kayla Santosuosso wrote that you don’t have to take action now (go by the NYC website!)

Some co-ops and condos will be affected by this tax. One shared this with leaseholders:

Can you imagine living in NYC for all of these years and receiving a lettzxer which tells you to prove residency or pay $50,000 in tax?!
The PAT Tax (Pied-a-Tere) Tax is going to backfire on NY. Someone did not think this through well. The news shared that a list will be beneficial to squatters. Mayor Mamdami said there is no new list, this information has always been available online. https://tinyurl.com/tax-change

July 30, 2026Demolishion on Ovington Avenue in Bay Ridge

Community Board 10 shared that 437, 439, 441 and 445 Ovington Avenue will be demolished within 10 days to make way for a new high school. See street view:
https://shorturl.at/AgMRH
This is the address for St. Nicholas Home, an assisted-living home which closed in 2022. This property was sold for $10.2 million in January 2024 to New York City School Construction Authority.
For those of you not paying attention, Community Board 10 never had the New York City School Construction Authority answer the questions that parents in in our community asked. The head of the CEC raised questions about this location because it wouldn’t alleviate the overcrowding at Fort Hamilton High School.
One CB 10 member pointed out that there is not an exit onto another street for this school (all schools have at least two streets to exit onto). The head of CB 10 at the time said that she was going to have school construction authority to come back to answer the questions. She also could have had former NYC Councilman Justin Brannan answer the questions, but she didn’t.
Who had free lunch? Why didn’t Senator Andrew Gounardes or Chris McCreight speak up for the community?

July 28, 2026Is This Maria Santos Flores Killer? Misael Cruz

On June 20th, Maria Santos Flores was murdered at her home on 85th Street in Bay Ridge. No one has been arrested for stabbing Maria!
The police believe 43-year-old Misael Cruz (pictured above) is responsible for taking Maria’s life. But they don’t know where he is. Info:

The 68th Preiinct failed to share information and no politician sought the information for the community FOR OVER A MONTH!
Do you think that would happen around Captain Christopher Vincenti’s home? NO WAY! The communication from the 68th Precinct should have come weeks ago because the killer is still on the loose in Brooklyn.

There are cameras all over. How come they didn’t follow this suspect?
The Detective’s Bureau put out this flyer. Detective Alexander Caruso is in charge of the case.

WHERE’S THE REWARD FOR GIVING INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PERSON? Usually these signs have a reward on them – this one doesn’t. Why?
RIP Maria. Can you imagine the unrest her family feels, especially since no one knows the motive.

July 26, 2026Rally for the Coney Island Boardwalk – July 30th. Why Hasn’t Kayla Santosuosso Handled This?

Coney Island is the forgotten area. The area was gerrymandered into a district with Bay Ridge to help Justin Brannan. But by now Kayla Santosuosso should have met with the residents and gotten the community help for the Boardwalk.
On July 30th at 1:30 pm, this Brooklyn community is having a protest.
