July 1, 2026New 68th Precinct Commander Sent Email to Lexus and Honda Vehicle Owners in Bay Ridge

Captain Christopher Vincenti became the Commanding Officer of the 68th Precinct. He sent this email today:
Dear Residents,
I would like to make our community aware of a recent increase in the theft of Lexus and Honda vehicles. While the 68 Precinct is actively investigating these incidents and deploying resources to identify and apprehend those responsible, I encourage all vehicle owners to take additional precautions to reduce their risk of becoming a victim.
If you own a Lexus or any Honda vehicle, please consider the following safety measures:
Ensure your manufacturer’s mobile app is installed, updated, and that you know your username, password, and security credentials so you can quickly access available vehicle tracking and connected services if necessary.
Familiarize yourself with your vehicle’s tracking and location features.
Consider installing an independent GPS tracking device to provide an additional layer of security.
Use a highly visible steering wheel lock, such as The Club®, to deter thieves.
Whenever possible, park your vehicle in a garage. If parking in a driveway, consider positioning another vehicle behind it to make it more difficult to remove.
Always lock your vehicle, close all windows, remove valuables from plain view, and never leave key fobs inside the vehicle.
Vehicle thefts are often crimes of opportunity. These simple preventive measures can make your vehicle a less attractive target and significantly reduce the likelihood of theft. The members of the 68 Precinct remain committed to protecting our community through targeted enforcement, investigative efforts, and crime prevention initiatives. We also ask residents to remain vigilant. If you observe suspicious activity involving parked vehicles or individuals attempting to gain unauthorized access to a vehicle, please call 911 immediately. Timely reporting allows responding officers the best opportunity to apprehend those responsible. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping keep our community safe.
Respectfully,
COMMANDING OFFICER Captain Christopher Vincenti
New York City Police Department
68 Precinct

July 1, 2026The Staples Lot in Bay Ridge Was Discussed at at The NYC Planning Commission Today

The Staples Lot was discussed at The City Planning Commission today. It was the fourth topic (our of five) discussed today.

The developer was asked what the AMI for the community was.

HE DIDN’T KNOW IT. The question was asked to see if the developer’s affordable units matched the community’s AMI. The Commissioner’s question was spot on!

The developer threw the blame on NYC Council Representative, Kayla Santosuosso and said she didn’t ask him about the AMI! Why didn’t Kayla ask about the AMI? Because she is a new councilmember and she’s doing the same things Brannan did.
Commissioner Osorio

When the developer was asked about the sewer system problem, he said that the sewers have not been updated in decades. Then he said that NYC would update the sewer in five years because there will be more development in this area. The developer had no solution, but thought it was alright to add more housing to the existing problem!

Four women signed up to speak for Bay Ridge. They were all very good. A lot of people didn’t speak out because they thought this was a done-deal because Kayla Santosuosso didn’t speak out against the developer.
Stephanie from Community Board 10 was the first to speak for Bay Ridge.

Impressive and well-prepared, Stephanie’s speech fought for the block and Bay Ridge. She reiterated that a R6A will support housing, the infrastructure and sustainability. Stephanie also shared that CB 10 is working with Kayla Santosuosso on a community plan for housing.
Commissioner Osorio asked Stephanie about the applicant. Stephanie said that fast track was the main problem. The commissioner agreed about Fasttrack being a problem.

2) Bernadette spoke for 94th Street. She said the developer put the flooding and traffic onto the city. The traffic is out of control on Fridays. A traffic and environmental study are needed.
3) Lauren P. spoke that the project is significantly out-of-scale. She spoke about Traffic congestion on 5th Avenue and 94th Street, parking and flooding. She asked for a R6A because 60 affordable units will be available.
4) Marissa spoke out against the size of the project. She also spoke out against the 94th Street and the existing problems in the area.
Today was a step in the process. There will be more hearings. See the project: https://zap.planning.nyc.gov/projects/2025K0284
