While Steve Chan is not my senator, I am always impressed with the way he stands up for his community while in Albany.
Senator Chan spoke out about the cost of living, high utility bills, uninsured motorists.
If Senator Chan represents you, be sure to vote for him in November because he is the real deal.

March 11, 2026Community Townhall About BESS on 64th Street

A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is being planned for 924 – 64th Street (this is a residential block). It’s also down the block from PS 69 – The Vincent Grippo School.

Senator Steve Chan and Assemblyman Lester Chang are having a Townhall Meeting on Thursday, March 12th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at PS 69 at 6302 – 9th Avenue.
Residents are concerned about this proposed battery storage system because some power stations have caught on fire and the fires release harmful toxins into the air.

March 10, 2026Is An All Male Homeless Shelter at 2501 – 86th Street Going to Begin Construction This Month?

The NYC Department of Social Services is proceeding with the proposed men’s homeless shelter at 2501 – 86th Street.
The community does not want a men’s homeless shelter there because they see the violence that has happened in other communities.
Councilwoman Susan Zhuang shared this:

Recently, Senator Steve Chan spoke to Mayor Mamdani and asked him to consider using this for housing. See the video here:
https://shorturl.at/sTx7W
Senator Steve Chan wrote a bill S5554 to help stop the shelter. Here’s the bill: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2025/S5554
Assemblyman Lester Chang cosponsored the bill in the Assembly. See the bill: https://shorturl.at/AtUMT
Brooklyn Assemblyman, Michael Novak also cosponsored the bill. But Bill Colton did not co-sponsor the bill. Why didn’t Colton co-sponor the bill? Bill Colton had the best chance for passing the bill as he is a Democrat and Democrats are in the majority. If Colton didn’t like Steve Chan’s bill, he could have introduced his own bill (but he didn’t)
Will Mayor Mamdani listen to the community? Maybe Senator Chan can make a new TikTok for Mayor Mamdani. The Mayor complimented Senator Chan’s Tiktok’s. See here:
