The Illegal Basement Has Now Become Andrew Gounardes’ Accessory Dwelling Unit
Supporters of Andrew Gounardes have probably not told you that he co-sponsored a bill in the NYS Senate that will allow your neighbor to turn their garage into another unit. (Bill 4547)
Just a few years ago,this type of dwelling was called a single family home with an illegal basement:
This accessory unit may include your neighbor putting a small house in their backyard to rent to another family.
Gounardes doesn’t own a home in Brooklyn. If he and his wife were paying a mortgage, he wouldn’t be sponsoring this bill.
This is the same reason Andrew Gounardes hasn’t done anything about our area being overtaxed. If it doesn’t affect Andrew, he doesn’t care.
It’s also the same reason Gounardes supported bail reform – all the people who got out of jail aren’t near him or his family, so he doesn’t care.
Just in case you are wondering if Gounardes supports the accessory dwelling in 2022, he answered a questionnaire in January 2022 and said he supports legalizing accessory dwelling units. (See here)
The other senators in NYS don’t know that Andrew Gounardes ran on a platform speaking out against illegal conversions.
By 2019, Gounardes and other politicians didn’t do anything to help the home owners, so residents in Dyker Heights called the politicians out in the newspaper. (See here) Months later, Brannan and Gounardes appeared in the newspaper at a meeting about illegal conversions. (see here) THAT’S HOW THEY FOOL BAY RIDGE. THEY NEVER DID A THING TO STOP HOME CONVERSIONS.
We should see the Bay Ridge Democrats speaking out against Andrew Gounardes because even club president, Christopher McCreight ran on a platform against illegal home conversions. (See here)
McCreight said here that there was solutions to the illegal conversions, we just need to act. ANDREW GOUNARDES HAS NOT ACTED FOR THIS COMMUNITY.
In 2020, Andrew Gounardes saw a fire in this area and called for the end of illegal home conversions in a letter with other politicians. (Source)
By 2021, during the pandemic, Andrew Gounardes decided to play politics with his friends in the Senate. They thought we needed more people living next door. These politicians don’t realize how many people left NYC and Andrew Gounardes did not tell them. In August 2021, the census said 320,000 left NYC. (Source)
What’s even stranger is that their bill for these accessory units comes months after people in Queens drowned in their NYC basement apartments. (See here)
Andrew Gounardes had a year to tell Community Board 10 about this bill. He hasn’t bothered. Another Gounardes is on Community Board 10, why hasn’t she told CB 10 about this?

When you vote in November, vote against this politician who is playing politics in Albany and not representing Bay Ridge.
