Max Rose Came to Bay Ridge to Stand Outside the 95th Street Station and Take Photos

Each morning, the R Train has homeless men sleeping on it.

These are people’s family members who aren’t receiving the correct help or support. They don’t want to live there – they have to live there because they don’t have anywhere else to go.

Today, Max Rose came to Bay Ridge to take photos outside the station shaking hands with people.

Max Rose took photos to put on his Facebook page and make it look like he was interested in our community. We don’t need any more picture-taking pols in Bay Ridge. I was glad to see many people spoke out against Rose on his Facebook Page

Andrew Gounardes was campaigning at this station earlier in the week. Neither politician wants to go down and get on the train and work on the problem of homelessness. If this was your family member, you would want the politicians to help provide them with at least a room with a bed and some food.

It would certainly be great to get them off the subway but where do you want them to go? Every time someone wants to build a shelter, NIMBY gets in the way. Put them anywhere just as long as it isn’t near me. I appreciate you showing there’s a growing problem but unless we (and I mean everyone) all agree to a safe plan for the homeless and local residents, these people are using the only warm and “safe” space.

Lower ridership due to the pandemic actually made it easier for the homeless to use the subways as shelter.

Society has basically abandoned these people who likely suffer from mental illness. You say they are someone’s family but they may not have anyone or the family tried to get them help but they refused.

Like him or not, Max at least has you talking about the issue. Going down to the platform isn’t going to solve the problem. It’s going to take money and people who care to do the right thing.

Instead of building yet another luxury condo that most can’t afford, let figure a way to help these people.

Yes, priority in housing these men should have happened. If someone isn’t well they will refuse help, even if they want help. They are afraid.

There are about 12-15 men living on the train – that’s not a lot to help.

Leaving them on the subway says they aren’t humans who deserve a bed to sleep in.
