Senator Golden’s Heroin and Opiod Addiction Meeting in Bay Ridge

Senator Golden held a meeting in Bay Ridge this week about heroin and opiod addiction.   In 2014, Golden spoke about the heroin problem and said he was going to get the drug dealers off the streets. In this week’s meeting  Golden told David Bochner that he needs to wake up some of the community – C’mon Senator!  Anyone who needs to know about the problem knows about it. When are you going to follow through with getting the drug dealers off the streets?

Who is  David Bochner? Bochner works at  Cornerstone Treatment Center in Fresh Meadows. His facility seems to have some serious issues  (which is noted on this page too and here too) Why would a man from Queens come speak at a Brooklyn event and recommend that a drug facility be put in an urban area where families with children live?  Senator Golden did not object to what Mr. Bochner said.    It is strange that  Mr. Bochner spoke about putting a facility in our backyard when we already have DYC in Coney Island.   There are plenty of detox places in Brooklyn already. Why is this Senator pushing more detox centers?  I think it’s very strange that  Senator Golden invited Bochner.

If anything was going to be done about the drug problem in our area of Brooklyn, Senator Golden would have been holding the meeting with other local pols like Senator Diane Savino, who is also part of the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opiod Addiction. Golden has been speaking about the heroin problem since 2014 – He hasn’t done much to get ahead of the problem. Really Golden can’t because the 68th Precinct patrolling and walking around on foot and that doesn’t happen because our PO’s in our area are being lent out.  Why would the Captain allow our officers to be lent out when he doesn’t have enough officers on staff?

Golden and two other senators who ran the meeting this week are on the  NY Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opiod Addiction and they said their focus was to “examine the issues facing communities in the wake of increased heroin abuse.”  In 2014, this Senate Committee did similiar meetings and released this report. The 2014 report shows bills the senate passed, but it’s apparent the situation isn’t any better.  These senators threw together a few meetings in diverse areas of NY – Brooklyn,  Penn Yan and Yates County, NY  and now they can write the 2016 report that they informed the public.

At the end of the meeting, Golden says he will pass legislation and get money for detox. So no mention of getting the drug dealers off the street this time, Marty?  In 2012, our local paper posted about the problem –  In 2015, people left comments on the same story because no one is doing anything about the drug dealers on their street.  Golden has a Facebook – Have you ever seen Golden ask residents to report drug dealing on their block to his office so he can get it to the 68th Precinct?”  I haven’t.

The first part of the meeting is here
