Is There a Work Slowdown for Sanitation in Bay Ridge? Ridgites Speak Out for Neighbors
Update: 10/29 – Monday night’s garbage has been out all week. Last night everyone put out the garbage for today, but there has been no pickup. By now Councilman Brannan should have sent the drone lobbyists to pick up my garbage.
10/28 Some blocks saw pickups for Monday done on Thursday.
Sanitation workers are being forced to get vaccine, so many believe that is causing the slowdown.
Our garbage was supposed to be picked up on Tuesday – it’s Thursday and there is garbage all over the street. People left it out because they hope it will be picked up overnight (like they do when there is a holiday)

Two Bay Ridge neighbors, Rosemarie and Dominic reported to Channel 1 News that garbage wasn’t picked up on Saturday and they Department of Sanitation didn’t pick it up today either. Now the garbage is decaying on their block.

They put their trash out for Saturday pickup and it was not picked up. In Southern Brooklyn and Staten Island have reported that garbage isn’t being picked up. The news suggested that it may be due to the vaccination requirement for all workers at the end of this week.
There is no politicians managing this area, so people are calling the news for help. It’s been this way for over a year now. (See here)
RoseMarie and Dominic pay high taxes and shouldn’t have to make call to get the trashed picked up.
Thank you to Rosemarie and Dominic for calling in the problem and shining the light on it. Other people in our neighborhood spoke out on social media about it:

Yes, I was wondering the same! I live in Bay Ridge as well. Garbage goes out Friday & Tuesday. 10/22/2021 (Friday) was the first day the garbage was not picked up. Put out Tuesday’s (10/26/2021) thinking it would come but once again it did not. I’m writing this comment at 10.22 pm on 10/28/2021 and I just heard garbage trucks out front, YaY!! I don’t know what was going on but let’s hope it doesn’t happen again!
