Seventy-one years ago, an 18-year-old soldier from 46th Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn was killed in the Korean War.

Raymond A. Smith’s body was not located.

In March 2021, Smith’s remains were identified. This past Tuesday, the soldier’s family received his body at JFK Airport. The military’s honor guard and Port Authority Police were at the tarmac at the airport as well.

They brought his body to Clavin Funeral Home for a wake today. His name is not listed on Clavin’ site, but I saw his newphew speak on Channel 1 News. Smith will be buried in Greenwood Cemetary with military honors.

While this may just open old wounds for Smith’s sister, it may also be comforting to finally be able to bury her brother.

RIP Raymond Smith (finally).

Hugs,
marlene
