A Baby Killed in Brooklyn Because Speed Cameras Don’t Stop Speeding… Politicians Want to Add More to Pretend They Do

A baby girl is dead…..and hardly anyone even spoke about it. (NY Post) We can’t imagine how terrible this is for the new mother who lost her baby.
The baby’s life was stolen from two parents who loved her and were walking around with her in a stroller in Brooklyn. A car crashed into another car and hit the stroller. The Post wrote: “The baby flew 15 to 20 feet in the air upon impact.” (Source)
The driver took off and tried to take another vehicle. He was caught and arrested. Then the Daily News wrote that he had 91 school zone speeding tickets.

It is so hard to listen to the news coverage on this. What these parent went through is absolutely horrifying. People heard the crash and then they heard the baby’s father crying out. I don’t think there is anything worse that could happen to people.
How were there no red flags to law enforcement or to DMV? Gounardes red light camera bill just charges $50 each time someone speeds by one of these cameras doesn’t include points on the license and isn’t strong enough to stop people from speeding (a license should be suspended after 10 tickets)
Senator Andrew Gounardes, who introduced the speed cameras should have had an outside agency study the effectiveness of the speed cameras by now.
Senator Gounardes wrote on social media that he feels outrage. If he felt outrage, then tomorrow he will change the law.

Instead of making the law effective to stop speeding, Gounardes keeps pushing for more red light cameras to collect revenue. See Ydanis tweet:

We have seen Gounardes’ political pals, Justin Brannan, Brad Lander and Jumaane Williams get numerous tickets and Gounardes remained silent. Gounardes was silent when Councilman Brannan received 16 speed camera tickets. (See here)
Prayers from politicians don’t cut it when a baby is dead. Update: Gounardes played politics and did a presser with Eric Adams. He didn’t do anything to change the law. Instead social media talked about his tax for tech companies, which will ultimately be passed onto the consumer. Governor Hochul did not mention this incident because Senator Gounardes did not bring it to her attention. WHY? Because it’s just another day of ignoring problems in Brooklyn.
