Why Did Senator Gounardes Give 89th Street the Finger?
Many people shared New Years Eve messages on the last day of the year. Most leaders posted messages of hope for their communities.
Bay Ridge’s is unfortunate to have Senator Andrew Gounardes, who had to show how crass he is with the graphic above. (See here)
I could understand a teenager posting this. This shows a lack of professionalism and a man that doesn’t understand his role in this community.
I showed my neighbor the graphic. My neighbor asked who is being given the finger on 89th Street and Colonial?
It didn’t take long to figure out what Republican lives in that area.

For a lot of these political people, it’s about their political party and not our neighborhood.

I actually thought it was kind of funny. Senators are humans as well and I think maintaining a sense of humor is important during these rough times. The graphic was also clearly meant as a joke, not a jab at the opposing party. We don’t need to create additional conflict where there isn’t any.

Gounardes is the worst. I’m predicting it now, wait until they redraw the districts this year. Once Andrew sees he’s more secure in his seat (they’ll most likely remove neighborhoods like Gerristen Beach and Marine Park from his district) you’ll see Andrew take a hard turn left.

If you find someone giving the finger funny, you have a weird sense of humor.
A man that has been given the opportunity to represent a community shouldn’t be giving anyone the finger….especially not the home of a Republican – that’s just petty. Gounardes isn’t a good representative for the area, so he should be a lot more gracious.
