Internet in Bay Ridge

What kind of cable or internet connection do most people use in Bay Ridge?   Some people get the Triple Play (internet, cable and phone) for a year when it is cheaper. Then people move to just the internet (and use hulu, Apple TV, Amazon Prime or a roku box for Netflix) or an internet/cable plan.

1. Verizon Fios is the best! It’s faster, more expensive (by like $20 more for 150/150), but not available everywhere yet – See is Fios is available at your address. It’s not at mine. Cost for  Internet plus HBO on demand for free = $68 a month

2. Verizon DSL – slower than Fios =  $50 a month (used to be $40 but they went up 2 years ago) This is slow so many people return to Time Warner.

3. Verizon Mi-Fi –  $50 a month and take it wherever u want. Fast and works well!

3.  Time Warner Cable (TWC)- not as reliable as Fios, but most people have it because Fios isn’t available on their block.  $100 a month for phone and internet. It is fast when it works, but they have down times. Some people experience a slow connection in the evening, but it gets better after 10 or 11 pm. When your internet goes out, the time for TWC to repair it in our are is more than a week!  They have the cheapest price for their slower  connection that some families get  for just cable – 15/5 with all taxes/fees/including modem rental  $47 a month.  Also TWC for internet only – purchase your own router=$45 a month (many people will get a roku box to share it with other tv’s in their home)

If you call Tme Warner and tell them you are going to switch they will lower you bill by $10-15 a month -> $135 for the triple play

4. Optimum– the optimum triple play deal is only good the first year then your bill doubles… It goes from $100 to $200… Most people downgrade after the first year and get internet plus a special station – $140

5. Direct TV – has very good customer service. Triple Play Deal. People who have trouble with Time Warner go to Direct TV because there are less problems. Basic package =  $56 a month

6. Dish Network

7. Clear Wireless Internet (Sprint) – stopped being available since November 2015 – wasn’t good –  $50 (up to 8 devices)

Some people have no cable and they still get a digital broadcast by purchasing an antennae that they stick on the window (yes it has to be on a window to get like 20 stations) People who live on higher floors have no problem usually. People on the first  floor may have spotty or hardly any service.

75/75 – great but not necessary unless you have a lot of devices

50/50 service is great – lickity split fast

25/25 service is good – plenty for streaming movies and surfing the web – you will get interruptions/lagging

marlene
