Plans for IS 332 – Formerly Nathans

This is the drawing of IS 332 that will be built at 650 – 86th Street, the site where Nathan’s Restaurant. (Updated: August 2021 – see photos)
Why isn’t anyone talking about this new school and sharing the pictures of it?
Remember when journalist, Meagan McGoldrick told us about this property sold for twice the price! (See here)

Community Board 10 had a meeting about the school and the plans were showed at the meeting.
The building will be five stories high.

At the CB 10 meeting, the architects said the tutor revival style of the nearby apartment building inspired the outside of the new school building.

From CB 10, Steve spoke up for the neighbors of the school and asked the designers to move the music room away from the homes in the area. (See that’s why I love Steve.)
The architects said there are no windows on the side where the residential building is located.
The designers said they will be using insulated windows and materials that stop sound transferring outside of the building or to other rooms. Steve also asked about the gymnasium.
Ann spoke up for the neighbors and said this school is a poor site location. This area is congested and crowded. Thank you Ann for expressing the concerns of many residents.
The DOT will adjust the lights in the area and make the area safe for students to walk to school. Directional signals will be used on 86th Street. School crossing guards will also be here.

CB 10 member, Anthony M, also talked about the 7th Avenue entrance being crowded due to dropoffs.
New trees will be added to the 7th Avenue side and two trees to the 86th Street side as well.
CB 10 Member, Robert asked about air infiltration and if the school made adjustments for things like the coronavirus.
Garbage will be stored inside the school – it’s the grey room on the first floor seen below.

A basketball court or handball court may be added to the schoolyard. That is decided later with the school.

CB 10 members did a great job with their questions about the school. Listen here

I would have thought it would be nice to hear the students practicing their music.
