Scotus Decision: Bishop DiMarzio and the Catholic Church Win

Governor Cuomo shut down churches during the pandemic. Bishop DiMarzio (Brooklyn) and the Catholic Church brought the case to the courts because some places were able to stay open throughout the pandemic and they knew something wasn’t right!
SCOTUS (the Supreme Court of the United States) ruled that the Church had a right to be open and blocked Governor Cuomo’s limits on churches. (See here)
“Catholics in Brooklyn and Queens have adhered to all COVID-19 safety protocols to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist,” he said. “Our churches have not been the cause of any outbreaks. We have taken our legal battle this far because we should be considered essential, for what could be more essential than safely gathering in prayer in a time of pandemic.”
Governor Cuomo responded that the Supreme Court’s decision was moot because the zones control what stays open. Governor Cuomo doesn’t like to be the loser.
