Best Gifts for Dogs….Errr Spoiled Dogs
Reggie, my dog recently celebrated his birthday birthday. A friend who is a new dog owned asked me: “What are the best things to get for a new puppy or a spoiled dog who has everything?” What dog items are must haves and last?
So this is going to be a list of things that have lasted because my dog (nicknamed: Chompers) can easily destroy toys and bedding.
1) Frontgate Dog Bed – this and the blanket below is the only bedding that my dog hasn’t torn up. I bought it more than 5 years ago and it still looks new. The cover and bedding are washable. I have a young dog, as well as a 15 year old dachshund and the older dog loves elaxes in this bed because it holds her well. The one we have looks like this one, but it is covered in corduroy. People who have laid on the bed fall asleep easily (yes people have tried the dogs bed because it looks comfy).
2) Blanket – This blanket always looks good. My dog can’t bite it up enough to destroy it. My dog likes to wrap himself up in it. I keep an extra one of these blankets because he doesn’t like when I take it away to wash it. It washes well as well. If I had to buy a dog a gift, I would buy this because it looks great, it’s good quality and dogs love it.
3) Greenies – I don’t give my dog rawhide bones because they aren’t good for them, but I do give them greenies because they love them. These come in all sizes to match your dog.
4) Liver treats – this is the only dog treats I feed my dog because I don’t like that most of the treats aren’t made in America and have very little nutrition. When I want to give him a treat, I make some mini meatballs from ground meat – just roll meat into balls and bake in the oven (much healthier)
5) Water bowl – we use this one because we have a few pets.
6) A comfortable harness – we use a harness rather than a collar because it is better for dachshunds. We attach a dog tag (with our number and not his name) to the top of the harness. We use a Puppia harness which comes in many colors. Durable and washable. Great leashes and collars here.
7) Toys – one of my dogs loves toys (he always liked them), one does not (she never liked them even when she was a puppy). The one who likes toys gets a new one pretty regularly because he and I both like new toys! He runs back and forth and throws the toy and runs to get it – this is good entertainment for me. Some of his favorites from when he was a pup: this squeaky mat and this one. Currently he likes these small kong toys
Stay away from toys like this as many people have expressed that pieces come off and get swallowed (see this article too)
Hugs,
marlene
