Gounardes Backs Bid, Even Though He Won’t Do Anything About Property Taxes
![]()
How does Senator Gounardes back a plan to make merchants pay more money when they are already paying high rents because of the property tax in this area?

As far as I know, Senator Andrew Gounardes has not met with the merchants to hear their concerns. Many residents have voted with the NO BID group because we don’t want the merchants to pay another tax!
Many Merchants are interested in working together as a group, but the BID is being forced on them and it is driving the merchants apart.
Fifth Avenue and 86th Street both have BIDs and neither are vibrant. Gournardes would be able to see that if he walked on these streets.
Why did we elect Andrew Gournardes if he is just interested in everyone paying more….except for those in jail?
The 3rd Avenue Merchants never had events like the 3rd Avenue Festival extend down to 97th Street, but now they want to include the merchants all the way down the Avenue. Of course…..it’t more money for them. I noticed Kitty Kieran’s letting us know, he had to do it on his own without the strolls and festivals because they weren’t available to him.
Let your politicians Know how you feel !!! Some seem to be out of touch.
Listen to all 3rd ave tenants not just the Few !!!!!! .
I’ve worked Hard for 25 years that’s why I’m still here.

The BID tax does not go away “if they try it and don’t like it.” It’s a permanent fee that continues to go up each year. There is no backing out once it has started.
