Coney Island – Where is Mark Treyger?

While small business owners in Coney Island, Brooklyn  fight against the huge rent hikes, where is their Councilman, Mark Treyger?  Story here and here

Treyger is term-limited, so he doesn’t care.

Store owner, Lola Star wrote: “Would you pay $60 for a Coney Island tee shirt? That’s what I would have to start charging (instead of $20 per tee shirt) if I accept this 400% (reduced from 500%) rent increase. It will make my Shop unaffordable to the average person and much of the local community. We cannot allow this to happen to Coney Island- especially on City owned land!”

“Ultimately, this high rent will mean the taxpayers pay twice. Businesses will have to raise their prices and Coney Island will no longer be affordable. This goes against the goal and the reason the City purchased this land. The land was purchased so Coney Island could remain the People’s Playground, an Amusement destination that is accessible to all demographics. Higher rents will mean higher prices. The tax payers paid for this land with their tax dollars and now they will have to pay AGAIN as they pay the higher prices the businesses will be forced to charge to afford these rent increases. Coney Island will become unaffordable.”
