Thank You Community Board 10

Bike lanes was the topic at Community Board 10’s meeting tonight at St. Anselm. Good turnout Bay Ridge.

I know bike enthusiasts are are disappointed. But they need to be patient because Seventh Avenue is going to have a protected bike lane. Let us see how this looks, works and work out the kinks before we proceed with more bike lanes.

I do appreciate the bike enthusiasts vision and enthusiasm to drive this project. It’s important to include everyone’s ideas in the community. Children really want to ride to school on their bikes.  Here’s how Community Board 10 voted:

No bike lane on 3rd Avenue – all voted against it.  This is not a good location for a bike lane as there are a lot of double-parked cars here for deliveries. The 3rd Avenue Merchants wrote  a letter and asked CB10 to not put a lane here.  This Avenue is not wide enough to do a covered bike lane,

Bay Ridge Parkway – most CB 10 members were against having a bike lane here.

84th/85th Street –  2 members were for it – 3 opposed it

Ridge Blvd bike lane – 3 members were for it – 2 opposed it.

I applaud CB 10 and especially the TWO MEMBERS of CB 10 who held strong and spoke out for your neighbors. When I watch their videos, I nod along with every word they say or interject into the meeting.

I am only for covered lanes in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights  as there are crazy drivers using our streets.

I don’t want to attend any funerals for teens or see any ghost bikes in our community.  Safety is the most important thing.

Hugs,
marlene
