Vegan Food & Restaurants in Bay Ridge

 

 

This was made for a vegan in our life who complained that Bay Ridge didn’t have food for her…it’s here – you just have to know where to go! 

 

 

  

Restaurants in Bay Ridge with food for vegans:

 

1) Al Vegano Vegan Mexican Grill – 9112 – 3rd Avenue –  see Seamless menu  (Al Horno made an all vegan menu)

  • Vegan breakfast
  • Tofu tacos from Al Vegano are spicy and great
  • Cactus salad

 

 

Vegan Options at Restaurants in Bay Ridge:

1) Saravá – The Modern Bistro 6819 – 3rd Avenue (69th Street)  347-662-6821   See menu

a) Vegan Breadless Quinoa Burger – sweet potato and wild rice patty on a bed of grilled pineapple, lettuce, tomato, onion and avocado.

b) Zucchini Spaghetti with Mushroom “Bolognese” sauce

c) Quinoa salad – black beans, corn, red cabbage, green apples & goat cheese 

d) Citrus Salad – greens, oranges, grapefruit, onions & cucumbers

e) Hearts of Palm salad – beets, onions, tomatoes, pomegranate seed, olives, cucumber

 

 

2) Kimchi Kooks – Kate’s Kitchen 119 Bay Ridge Avenue. The menu at this new place changes regularly with vegan choices. See here.

Banchan is vegan. It’s made with chives, onions, carrots, green peppers and wheat flour. These tasty bites can be reheated and served hot, or they can be eaten cold, straight from the fridge!

We have tried: vegan kimchi, the pancakes with mushrooms (which were really good), radish banchan which was strong and tasty.

4) Superfresh at 242 Bay Ridge Avenue

Kimbap is in the freezer section.

5) Wheel Bagels at 6907 – 4th Avenue

They have vegan tofu veggie spread and crunchy gluten free bagels.

5) Brooklyn Firefly 7003 3rd Avenue 718-833-5000  They deliver – on Uber Eats.

Brooklyn Firefly makes their own vegan mozzarella cheese now! People who are allergic to dairy, love it.

They also have vegan pepperoni pizza and vegan pizza with prosciutto.

Vegan meatballs are good here.

Vegan San Gennaro:

Vegan garlic aioli sauce with potatoes  – this is really good.  

Boozy vegan egg cream with oat milk

Pizza made with vegan cheese – (Daiya) – it’s delicious.

Secret: Vegan Chicken Francese – it’s not on the menu though

17) Pita and Olive – 7720 – 3rd Avenue – they run out easily because their food is so good, so call before you go

Bagel boy now has vegan cream cheese spread.

Istanbul Bay has a spinach pie with no cheese, hummus, baba, grape leaves and falafel

c) Panino Con Vegetalia Alla Griglia – Made with grilled eggplant, tomato, zucchini and mozzarella. served with mesclun salad and soda.

d) Linguine Primavera –  made with mixed vegetables and sautéed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil. served with soda. 

e) Zio Zip Toto Pizza – ask them to hold the cheese. Roasted zucchini and eggplant

 

24)   Blue Door – 8413 3rd Ave  917-905-4041

Their salads are great, but you have to ask for them without the feta cheese. 

The Tiganito Kolokithi is fried zucchini chips and they are delicious. We dipped them in pantzari which is a beet paste and it was sooo good.

Penne pasta with roasted garlic and eggplant tossed in a light tomato sauce (remember to tell them to leave out the cheese) 

 

 

25) Leo’s (formerly Casa Calamari) 8502-3rd Avenue  718-921-1900

 

Zucchini Sticks – they are fried, but good. They come in a large round black plastic tray  (like what you get when you order  a large salad) and there are two marinara dipping sauces and 3 slices of lemon.

 

Vegetali Pizza $23.00   Fresh sauteed broccoli, spinach, mushrooms, oven roasted peppers, mozzarella and a tomato and basil sauce.   (just ask him to make it without the mozzarella cheese – you can put that on the seamless order – they listen) 

 

A lot of good salads – you just have to ask for it without the feta cheese.

 

I am not sure if this sandwich is vegan – it was in the news as a vegan sandwich.

 

 

 

 

26) Ayat Restaurant at 8504 – 3rd Avenue. There are a lot of vegetarian choices at Ayat.


27) Red Bowl Restaurant – 8518 – 3rd Avenue Many Vegetarian choices. They can make dishes gluten-free also! *Nice restaurant to go to with visitors who are vegetarian.

27) Karam 8519 4th Avenue – Karam is known for their amazing falafel. They sell eggplant salad, stuffed peppers, stuffed squash, grape leaves, tabouleh salad, moujadara (lentils and rice) and fried eggplant and cauliflower. Their zaatar and spinach pies are amazing! Hummus is good. I don’t like baba ghanouj at most places, but it is amazing here.

Chipotle has sofritas (a spicy tofu) or vegetables. You can get he sofritas or just vegetables in a bowl, burrito, or tacos. The chips and salsa are also vegan, as are their rice, beans, and guacamole.

44) Baya Bar 9417 – 3rd Avenue  Acai bowls and Kale bowls. Kale bowls have honey so remember to tell them to leave it out.  They also sell date bars which are vegan.

 

 

44) Mr. Bagels 9419 – 3rd Avenue has tofu cream cheese

a) Beyond Burger….not the Impossible Burger  (it comes on the challah roll which is not vegan – ask for the gluten free roll because it’s vegan)

f) Spinach and beet salad

45) Burger King has an Impossible Burger. Here’s the problem – is it cooked separate from their beef burgers? If it is cooked separately, do all the workers take that seriously?

They run them along the same conveyor belt as the meat, unless you ask for them to be microwaved.

 

Also have mayo – so ask for it without it.

Burger King has been serving a veggie burger for many years.

    Great list! You should mention Wayfare spreadable cheese at Foodtown. It’s delicious, and much cheaper than other vegan cheeses. Ditto for their butter–delicious and cheaper. And it’s one of the few vegan butters that doesn’t use palm oil. They also have Wayfare pudding and cream cheese… but Trader Joe’s cream cheese is much cheaper.
