Things to Do in Bklyn
Everyone always asks me ‘What is there to do in Brooklyn?’
Things to Do in Brooklyn:
- Go to Coney Island – amusement park, beach, restaurants & the original Nathan’s. Visit Luna Park for games and rides (you can get discounted tickets online here) or Deno’s Wonder Wheel which has rides for the smaller kids (you buy the tickets in sheets there). The aquarium – Parts are open, but it’s not as much as they had and the aquarium is $$$
- Brooklyn Botanic Gardens (people in Brooklyn love to call it the Botanical Gardens – I have no idea why) It’s free to enter on Tuesday AND Saturday from 10 AM to 12PM. See other free places in NYC here.
- Prospect Park and the Leffert’s Historic House. They usually have events there on the weekend. Take a ride on a carousel in Prospect Park (it’s huge and it’s free for children on Thursdays in August). Then go roller skating or rent one of the cool bikes at Le Frank Center.
- Adventurers Amusement Park – 1824 Shore Parkway Brooklyn – originally Nellie Bly – Pay one price $32 now – wow that’s high. But the park is good for small children under 8
- Ice Skating at Wollman Rink (Prospect Park) from November to March – See schedule here
- 7 Days a week play/flight simulation at Aviator Sports 3159 Flatbush Avenue (Floyd Bennett Field)
- Take a workshop on the Rooftop Farm at Brooklyn Grange (these sell out fast) or take a cooking or yoga class there ( butcher paper diners there are fun with friends, but again these sell out very fast)
- Try bladesmithing and learn to make a knife with Theo Nazz, a Forged in Fire television show champion! He has classes in Red Hook, Brooklyn. It will take about a few visits to create a knife.
- Rock climbing at Brooklyn Boulder
- Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. It cost $15 Million and took 13 years to built (1870-1883). If you do plan to do this, walk from Brooklyn to Manhattan in the morning, rather than the afternoon so that the sun is on your back and not glaring in your face. Don’t put a lock on the bridge because that’s for tourists who can’t afford to go to France do.
- Eat Pizza – Brooklyn is know for having the best pizza and there are so many places to try! Juliana’s Pizza (19 Old Fulton Street) was named the best in America so it’s worth a try, right? (We have not tried it yet). We love Espresso Pizza in Bay Ridge and Spumoni Gardens
- Take a ride on Jane’s Carousel in Dumbo Brooklyn.
- Brooklyn Children’s Museum (if you have children of course)
- Take a class in blowing glass at Brooklyn Glass or Urban Glass
- Take a class in bee keeping at the Brooklyn Grange (it’s on top of the Navy Yard). If bees aren’t your thing. take a farm and garden class, attend a butcher paper dinner (we haven’t done this yet, as it books up fast – but it looks amazing) or take a yoga class (it is amazing to do yoga on top of this building $15 each class or 6 for $75). You can also take a tour of the farm for $10 (I have not done this) OR Luke’s Lobster Class (yes you eat a lobster and sip wine on top of the building – great!)
- Go to some of the great street festivals and feasts. The 18th Avenue Feast also known as the feast of St. Rosalia is the biggest and most popular feast in Bensonhurst.
