CB 10 Announces ULURP For Staples Building Less Than a Week Before The Meeting on July 1, 2026

NYC City Planning Commission will discuss the Staples Property in Bay Ridge on Wednesday July 1st at 10:00am.

At the first CB 10 meeting with the developer for the Staples property, he told CB 10 that he met with NYC Council Representative Kayla Santosuosso and former Councilman Justin Brannan. He LED with that and he didn’t give an inch because he didn’t HAVE to.

Former Councilman Justin Brannan failed to add housing all the years he was in office. State Senator Andrew Gounardes failed to add affordable housing to Bay Ridge. Gounardes stood with Governor Hochul as she made a sweet deal for developers the Gowanas area (that’s who always wins with bad politicians).

Now the Mamdami administration is blaming our area for the problems of terrible politicians, who prioritized developers, but not affordable housing! And Santosuosso stood at the Community Board Meeting and acted as if the community blocked affordable housing in the past. She worked for Brannan, so she should have represented the community and put the blame where it belonged.

In 2020, Radiofree Bay Ridge, shared that our area was not keeping up with housing for the homeless and neither Brannan, Gounardes or Santosuosso took action. See:

The home owners on 93rd Street are going to suffer because of our terrible politicians. Santosuosso could have called for the developer to do a study on the sewers and the traffic on the streets, but she didn’t.

Kayla Santosuosso and her husband owned The Lockyard Bar. She knows that the area can not handle more traffic and the sewers are a problem. Yet, she failed to speak about it at the CB 10 meeting. This corner near PS 104 is getting an electric charging station and two apartment buildings with grocery stores. That shows how disconnected this politician is to the community!

Our community received housing before Brannan and Gounardes. Many SRO’s were quietly added to the area years ago. Neither CB 10 or any politician has ever mentioned these SRO’s, but we have visited some of them (most are nicely-maintained buildings).

Community Board 10 isn’t here for the community. To provide the date of the ULURP meeting less than a week before the meeting is very telling. Please submit a comment to support our 93rd Street neighbors: https://cpccomments.planning.nyc.gov/
