Community Board 10 Meeting – Kayla Santosuosso on Rezoning and a Community Plan For Bay Ridge

Community Board 10’s meeting was packed tonight.

Council representative, Kayla Santosuosso was at Community Board 10’s meeting and she brought the City Council Land Use Team. Santosuosso stood with them and left with them (meaning: She didn’t stay for the Community Board 10 meeting).

NYC passed a Charter revision to make sure that every district is building affordable housing. Community Board 10 only built 523 units in ten years. That is the lowest of any Brooklyn community board. In the map above, where its dark blue, that’s where most of the housing was built in NYC.

NYC has determined that twelve districts will be excluded from Ulurp and the housing projects will be fast-tracked. This is going to happen to Bay Ridge until we get off their list.

The Community Board 10 was told that Bay Ridge will be on NYC’s rezoning list between 2027 and 2032.

A community plan will help the community win back the power and the councilmember will be able to have Ulurp input when more affordable housing is added to the district. The community board will decide where to build.

NYC will be targeting the Bay Ridge Triangle (87th to 95th Street – where the R train is), which is shown in red on the map:

The red area is not set in stone, it will depend on the community meetings.

There is a large amount of commercial property here – auto shops on this strip (because of the C8 zoning):

The recent rezonings are targeting this area as well:

The community will be invited to participate in these meetings and determine where the housing will go.

The development will be mixed-use properties with shops or services on the bottom floor and apartments over them.

A Bay Ridge resident noted that while some apartments will be affordable, the other apartments in the development are not.

A Bay Ridge resident said that we don’t want this because it will make the area like a ghetto. He said, “We want you to go away.”

Hugs,
marlene
