Community Board 10 and The Staples Lot

Last week, CB 10’s Zoning and Land Use Committee voted in favor of rezoning the Staples Lot.

The developer said that the affordable housing would be handled by a group called The Fifth Avenue Committee. Why wasn’t a group in Bay Ridge used for this?

The developer made it seem like they were “community activists.”

Why does the 5th Avenue Committee’s 990 show huge lobbying expenditures?

Why didn’t anyone on CB 10’s Land Use Committee question who the 5th Avenue Committee was before they voted?

How did the 5th Avenue Committee get involved in this project?

*A little history: Brad Lander served as the executive director of the Fifth Avenue Committee before entering city politics.
