A blue security booth ( seen in the photo above), a porta-potty (the other blue item above), a generator and other supples were delivered by three trucks at 8:30 pm this evening (Palm Sunday) to 2501 – 86th Street, the location of the proposted homeless shelter in Bensonhurst.

Four men were working at the property tonight. The police allowed them to continue banging at 9:30 pm. Is NYC giving out permits for people to work on a Catholic holiday?

The residents of Bensonhurst came out and chanted: “No work on Sunday” and “No homeless shelter.” They do not want a transient homeless hotel for 150 men in their community. As the men worked and loud banging could be heard, the people blew whistles because they don’t have a permit to work.

There were a lot of police officers in the area.

It’s 10:00 pm and the people are still there because the people care about their community. Update: At 11:00 pm, more police officers were at the site. Update: At 12:00 am, Senator Chan said he was still on 86th Street and one person was arrested.

Senator Steve Chan and Councilwoman Susan Zhuang were standing with the people tonight. Sen. Chan called the Department of Buildings Deputy Chief and sent her pictures/video of what was happening. She said she would investigate in the morning.
