It’s January And SYEP Applications Are Open – Summer Youth Employment in NYC

Applications are now open for the 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). For more information and to apply: on.nyc.gov/YouthEmploy.

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is New York City’s paid summer jobs program for students 14-24 years old.
The program is from June 23 –f August 1, 2026, although some placements are for 6-weeks (ex. July 6th – August 15th or July 13th– August 22th)
Hourly Wage: Around $16.50/hour in 2026 (varies slightly by provider or funding updates).
25 hours per week for six weeks. Partcipants make around $2,700 for the full summer (25 hrs × 6 weeks × $16.50/hr).
Some younger participants (ages 14–15) may participate in project-based learning with a stipend instead of hourly pay.
Examples of Jobs & Work Experiences
SYEP placements include:
- Office & Administrative Support – filing, data entry, reception
- Customer Service & Sales – helping customers in retail or nonprofit settings
- Food Service & Hospitality – kitchen assistants, event support
- Healthcare Support – assisting staff in clinics or community health sites
- Educational & Youth Programs – organizing activities at NYC Summer camps, tutoring
- Technology & IT – basic tech support, data tasks
- Community & Social Services – outreach, program support
- Arts / Media / Design – creative projects, social media support
- Environment & Parks – park maintenance, community greening roles
- Project-Based Learning (younger teens) – structured learning projects with hands-on activities instead of traditional job duties.
Participants are matched with placements based on interests, age, skills, and availability.
