Traffic in Bay Ridge Caused By the New School, Congestion Pricing and Bridge Work

The traffic was backed up from the bridge to around 70th Street in Bay Ridge yesterday around 2:45 pm – 3:30 pm down to Dyker Heights in the mid-80’s.

If you are coming from Dyker Heights around this time, avoid 86th Street. The new school on 86th Street and 7th Avenue has a crossing guard that stops traffic when the light is green because the children need to be safe. This prevents cars from making a right tune on 86th Street. The left lane turn only prevents anyone to pass.

Congestion Pricing has forced more cars onto Brooklyn streets because people the only way to get from Brooklyn to New Jersey without going through Manhattan is by taking the route through Staten Island, which puts more traffic on the Verrazzano Bridge.

This week, they were working on the fence on the Upper and Lower Verrazzano Bridge. Any traffic problem on the bridge causes a traffic problem in Bay Ridge.

Update: Baby falcons were born on the top of the bridge and they went up there to see them and News 12 filmed it, so this may have slowed things down yesterday. See story:

Why aren’t the police doing anything about the traffic? There were no police cars around. And there are no police officers in unmarked cars because the police wouldn’t sit in traffic.

Hugs,
marlene
