NY Yimby Wrote that Permits were Filed for the Homeless Shelter on 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge

Update: At the CB 10 Meeting on 4/22/25, Josephine remarked that the permits were approved for the homeless shelter. She said that she has requested someone to speak about this. (LOL no one has spoken about it since 2023)

NY Yimby’s website announced today that the permits were filed for a seven-story homeless shelter on 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge. I’m not sure how this is any different than permits that were previously filed (maybe the date was adjusted because they haven’t been doing any work?)

2023’s Records looks the same as what NY Yimby shared today. See here:

The proposed 80-foot-tall building is being made for 105 men. Councilman Justin Brannan said it was for Veteran’s. Brannan did not call for the City to accept community input on this project. I was unable to find any office that could confirm that this shelter was for veterans. The letter that Brannan, Gounardes and CB 10 received from NYC just says 105 men.

There are two cellar levels. And there is also a 30-foot-long rear yard.

In January 2024, the community protested outside of Brannan’s office because Justin Brannan failed to share the information with the community. Brannan’s staffer took photos of the protesters and Brannan posted the pictures on his Facebook page to try to shame them. Justin Brannan told the people in the towers that he was going to bring someone to speak to them about this project, but that didn’t happen.

Josephine at Community Board 10 only shared one sentence about the homeless shelter with the community. No one at the CB 10 was surprised or asked any questions about the short announcement (meaning: they were aware before the meeting). No updates were provided by CB 10 to the community. So our community board isn’t working for us either.

Hugs,
marlene
