CB 10 Gave Information About the Homeless Shelter Last Night, But Then Failed Bay Ridge
Almost a year after saying one sentence about the homeless shelter coming to 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge, Josephine provided basic information about the shelter.
Some residents living near the location for the homeless shelter received a letter about it about a week ago (I haven’t seen the letter or I would share it).
Councilman Brannan failed to talk to the people living in the Bay Ridge Towers. They protested outside his office and Brannan had his staffer take photos of the people to try to shame the people for protesting that Brannan failed to inform them!
Both Councilman Brannan and Josephine from Community Board 10 received the information from the City last November. (Josephine’s letter) (Councilman Brannan’s letter)
Andrew Gounardes received notice about the Bay Ridge shelter and didn’t share it on social media or in any of his mailings. It’s not near his or his wife house, so he doesn’t care.
State Senator Iwen Chu mreceived her letter on the same day about the 86th Street shelter (Brannan was the Council Representative of that area).
Last night, Josephine, the manager of CB 10 said that Brannan was going to have someone come in and talk to the residents. Brannan said last year that he was going to do that and he never did. Josephine knows this. Sadly, not one member of CB 10 called for CB 10 to take action and get someone in to speak.
In other neighborhoods, people would go to the state senator. For us, it’s Andrew Gounardes and Gounardes is too meek to speak out against Brannan. By now CB 10 should have stepped forward for the residents of the Bay Ridge Towers and called people in to speak about this shelter.
Many of the residents in that area are worried about safety – providing the people with information instead of withholding it for a year causes people to distrust the Community Board and politicians. All of these dead-end offices are terrible for our community.
Hugs,
marlene
