Bay Ridge Protested Against the Homeless Shelter Planned for 4th Avenue
At noon today, a huge crowd of Bay Ridge residents gathered on 4th Avenue and 66th Street to protest against the planned homeless shelter. See the two videos shared here.
On November 20th, Bay Ridge residents were blindsided by the one sentence announcement about the homeless shelter made by Community Board 10’s manager.

No politician communicated information about the homeless shelter until after CB 10’s meeting.
Community Board 10 has not shared any further information about this shelter either. This has made many people living near this location very nervous! Why wasn’t information shared at the December meeting?
On the Bay Ridge Talk Facebook page, one man stated that this is a homeless shelter for veterans and their families. The plans on NYC’s website show this is seven floors of congregate living facilities and a cafeteria in the basement. (See plans here) This is not apartments where people can live in dignity with their families. Many homeless people don’t want to stay in shelters because they don’t consider them safe.
Hugs,
