Dyker Lights – If There Are Vendors, Then There Needs to Be a Cleanup Crew Too

The lovely people living in Dyker Heights decorate their homes because they love Christmas. They have been doing this for several decades.

Vendors are allowed to sell in this area, so NYC is responsible for cleaning up the area – just like after a parade or another event in NYC!

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, buses come and there are a lot more people purchasing from the vendors. That means in the early hours of Saturday, Sunday and Monday, a sanitation crew is needed on a dozen blocks in Dyker Heights.

If NYC doesn’t have the money for the cleanup, then collect it from each bus, which is currently receiving a free parking spot on 86th Street! Charge $40 for parking to cover the sanitation. The companies can pay online for the parking pass and display it in their window. The bus is loaded with people who have paid to see the lights, so the company doing the tour, can pay for the cleanup.

Each year the community is told that this is being taken care of, but it isn’t. It is the same issue year after year.

Today, we saw several residents write that they were ticketed in front of their home. Ticket the people blocking residents driveways – don’t ticket the residents.

If you have ever been to Dyker Heights, you will see that the people keep their property clean and well-maintained. They don’t need a lot of special services throughout the year because they take care of the neighborhood.

If you are a NY’er and you are writing online that Dyker Heights residents should not put up their lights, please go back under your rock. It’s Christmastime – it’s time for lights, decorations and having a good time! Brooklyn is lucky to have it’s own Christmas town!

Hugs,
marlene
