Homeless Shelter Coming to Bay Ridge – 4th Ave.

Community Board 10 announced that a homeless shelter will be constructed at 6530 – 4th Avenue. It was announced in one sentence – no additional information was given.

Both Senator Andrew Gounardes and Councilman Justin Brannan were informed by NYC in November 2023 that this was a shelter for 150 men. The politicians did not share that information with the community.

The building on this property is just one floor – it was a kitchen design showroom. The first picture here shows a seven-story building.

You can hear Josephine say it in the video at 56:39 or you can see it at this link.

This is what Josephine said:

00:56:39 Community board 10 was notified

00:56:41 by the Department of Social Services

00:56:43 that a homeless shelter will be

00:56:45 constructed at

00:56:47 6530 – 4th Avenue. Um we were just notified by

00:56:51 Department of Social Services and we’ll

00:56:52 be reaching out to the agent agency and

00:56:55 the service provider um at an upcoming

00:56:57 committee meeting to learn more

00:56:59 information about that location.

Not one politician shared this information!

A Bay Ridge resident asked about the homeless shelter on Facebook and the moderator of the Facebook group wrote this:

It has not been announced that the homeless shelter will be for veteran’s housing and it’s not published anywhere either, so that man must have a connection to a politician’s office. The politicians in Bay Ridge have withheld information from residents.

While that information may have been new to Josephine at CB 10, Justin Brannan failed to share the information with the community, just like he failed to share the information about the hotel on 86th Street and he was mad that I shared public information here.

Brad Lander shared this map a few days ago:

Hugs,
