Why is Moms Demand Action Standing With a Candidate Who Didn’t Take Action Against Guns in Bay Ridge or Dyker Heights?

In May, Max Rose tweeted this:

I responded to Rose on Twitter because Max Rose was silent when there were issues with guns in our community. I also wrote this to let our community know that this politician is not being authentic.

Today, I saw on Twitter that some mothers from Moms Demand Action were at Rose’s office and campaigning for him.

Didn’t they research Rose to find out if he was a gunsense candidate? Or was it just easier for them to say, “Oh he’s a Democrat and a military guy so he will stand up against guns.”

This is not the first time we have seen Moms Demand Action back a candidate that was silent against guns in the community. Andrew Gounardes failed to stand up against these same issues. It’s easier for these men to stay silent and hope no one notices. Gounardes gave $50K before the primary to a gun group outside of our district (see here) They were doing endorsements at the time, so Andrew may have been trying to get endorsed.

I’ve tried emailing and calling Moms Demand Action for several years. I have not received a response. This may be a political group for Democrats, rather than a concerned group of parents. Whose funding this group and their red tshirts? Parents would call back – especially someone in Brooklyn!

Two incidents where Max Rose did not respond to guns in our community:

a) A man living in Dyker Heights used an AR-15 on his neighbors home because he thought his wife was cheating. He called the police on himself and they picked him up. Since he was in the Army, he was released. Max Rose was silent. (See story in the news)

b) Sammy Hamden, a Bay Ridge business owner was shot at while he was setting up his business. The 68th Precinct responded and they captured the guy. Yet, politicians in our area failed to contact Hamden, so Hamden went to the news to alert Bay Ridge. (See here)
