Little Amal, an twelve foot tall puppet has traveled over 9,000 miles in twelve countries (Turkey, Greece, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, UK, etc). See photos here
Little Amal arrived in NYC with her giant suitcase this week! She will be in New York City for 17 days and will have events throughout the city – most are free.
Little Amal @walkwithamal, arrived at Grand Central today…a giant puppet representing a 10-year-old Syrian refugee and is an international symbol of compassion, human rights and hope worldwide

The giant puppet represents a 10-year-old Syrian refugee, who is searching for her uncle. This art highlights the plight of refugee children and the hardship displaced refugees face as they flee from their land and violence. (How sad, but so informative!)

I was so excited when I saw this video.
I was disappointed the flyer for the Bay Ridge Event had this:

I am surprised that organizations in our area stepped up to sponsor this important event. Purchasing some juice and cookies, rather than requesting parents bring items will limit who is attending…that’s probably the point of the flyer.
Several organizations in our community receive a lot of money from NYC Council, Councilman Brannan and Assembly representative, Mathylde Frontus. Disappointed to see local organizations that received so much wouldn’t share this event like the rest of NYC.
Other events for Little Amal have invited the community in to participate in the free event. The flyers look like this:
This event is free and open to the public, and families are encouraged to attend together. There is nothing to prepare, just show up with an open mind and heart. There will be dance, music, puppets, and workshops. Amal’s journey in the park begins at 4 PM at Queens Museum and ends at Queens Theatre, where our festivities begin at 5 PM.

Every day events for Little Amal are posted here and look like this:
